Kyle Bristow - 12/16/2009
Youth for Western Civilization (YWC), which is a right-wing
organization that has chapters at nearly a dozen universities across
the United States, was recently prevented from being established at
Providence College, a private, Catholic school located in Rhode
Island. In a packed meeting, the student government—called the
“Student Congress”—voted against approving YWC as an official
university club in a vote of 16 to 12, and after the deplorable vote
was taken, the crowd and some of the student government
representatives burst into applause and celebration.
In an article published in the university’s student newspaper, The
Cowl, entitled “Youth for Western Civilization Defeated” (12/10/09),
the journalist, Meghan Conway, reports that many students present at
the meeting were upset with YWC’s mission statement, which states that
the group believes that Westerners “have the self-evident right and
duty to work for the survival of our own culture and civilization. ...
Western civilization is our civilization and in spite of the continual
assault and hatred it endures from the radical left, we wish to revive
the West, rather than see our civilization be sent to the graveyard of
history.” Needless to say, this message does not resonate in the dark
hearts of those who fanatically adhere to the ideologies of
multiculturalism and liberalism.
Jasiel Correia, the president of the Class of 2013 and a
representative of Student Congress, was said in the aforementioned
article to be opposed to YWC becoming an official club and was quoted
as having said, “I feel that this [YWC] truly does not go along with
the mission statement of our college.”
Angela Marathakis, an employee of the college, was said to be
concerned that YWC’s existence on campus would make people feel less
safe. The student newspaper quoted her as having said,
“I was asked to come here by some of my own student athletes who feel
threatened by this club on campus. So, I want you to know that there
are a lot of people who feel uncomfortable with this on campus.”
Marathatkis and her ilk are nothing more than thugs who wish to
deprive conservative students of the ability to participate in
political discourse. It is ridiculously amazing that they dare claim
that students would be put in a state of fear if conservative students
were permitted to voice their political opinions, and it is absolutely
incredible that the leftists have the audacity to claim that YWC’s
mission is adverse to the mission of the college. A simple online
search shows that Providence College—remember, it is a purported
Catholic college—has university-recognized chapters of College
Democrats, Amnesty International, and a group called “Stopping
Homophobia, Eliminating Prejudice, and Restoring Dignity (SHEPARD).”
A great majority of Democratic politicians—and the Democratic Party
itself—support abortion and the homosexual agenda, which are ideals
that are opposed by real Catholic beliefs.
According to an online article by Catholic World News entitled
“Vatican Breaks with Amnesty International on Abortion” (6/14/07), the
article reports that the Holy See has broken ties with Amnesty
International “after its pro-abortion about-turn.” The article goes on
to say that Cardinal Renato Martino stated that the Holy See will not
give any more donations to Amnesty International specifically because
of the group’s advocacy for abortion. Even though the Vatican wants
nothing to do with Amnesty International, Providence College has no
problem allowing students to operate a chapter of it.
SHEPARD is a pro-sexual deviancy club like any other on college
campuses. Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP), a traditional
Catholic organization, has Providence College listed on its website as
having a “pro-homosexual club” for recognizing SHEPARD as a student
organization. Catholics have traditionally treated the Bible as the
Word of God, but Providence College must be using updated versions of
the Bible that lack Romans 1:24-27, Corinthians 6:9-10, Timothy
1:9-10, and Leviticus 20:13 if they really believe that a group that
exists to promote the homosexual agenda does not conflict with its
Catholic mission.
It is rubbish for the leftists to say that YWC’s mission conflicts
with the allegedly Catholic mission of the college, because the three
groups I cited pretty much prove beyond all doubt that Providence
College does not give a damn about its Catholic mission, unless the
homosexual and abortion agendas are now part of the Catholic faith.
The College Democrats, Amnesty International, and SHEPARD groups are
even advertised to students on Providence College’s website!
The leader of the conservative students at Providence College who are
trying to form a YWC chapter, Tim Dionisopoulos, recently published a
statement on the website of YWC, www.WesternYouth.org, in which he
states that the two meetings he had with the Student Congress can be
“likened to the Salem witch trials, as every possible rumor was deemed
truth, every lie as true as gold, and every accusation beyond the pale
of doubt. The few sane voices in the room were drowned out by the mass
of ill-informed leftists who were on a divine mission from the gods of
multiculturalism to prevent our club from receiving a fair hearing.”
Preventing YWC from becoming an official student group is just the
most recent action Providence College has taken against conservatives.
In April of 2009, YWC’s honorary chairman, former presidential
candidate and Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), was scheduled to give a
speech at the college, but the administration banned Tancredo from
speaking because his anti-immigration views were allegedly not inline
with those of the college. Tancredo came to the college anyways, and
he spoke at the gates of campus. Providence College, however, has
hosted Senator Shelden Whitehouse and the late Senator Ted Kennedy,
who both have a virulently pro-abortion voting record. Being that
Providence College has a history of preventing people from coming to
campus who espouse views antithetical to those of the college, one can
only surmise that Kennedy’s and Whitehouse’s views were acceptable and
therefore not adverse to the school’s allegedly Catholic mission.
Hilaire Belloc, a famous Catholic theologian, author, and historian,
once opined, “The faith is Europe and Europe is the faith.” Belloc
believed that Western civilization and Catholicism are inseparable,
and that when either one succumbs to a threat, the other will expire
as well. If culture is derived from religious ethos as sociologists
claim, or if the religion of the West is Catholicism as Belloc
believed, then Providence College’s attack on Western civilization is
an attack on Christendom itself.
Pat Buchanan, a conservative Catholic, once stated, “Our culture is
superior, because our religion is Christianity.” There is much truth
in that sentiment, and there is nothing wrong with conservative
students at a Catholic college proclaiming the West to be superior to
foreign cultures. There is, however, something seriously wrong with a
Catholic college that persecutes its students who wish to do nothing
more than to defend their heritage.
It seems to me that Providence College has launched a full-fledged
inquisition, and that they are targeting the wrong students and groups
in their crusade to serve their perverted Catholic mission. The
heresy, hypocrisy, and liberalism at Providence College run so rampant
that it could only be corrected by Torquemada, but he has
unfortunately been dead for over 500 years.
Kyle Bristow was until recently the chairman of Young Americans for
Freedom chapter of Michigan State University, which had become famous
due to its lively and controversial meetings under his leadership.
[Some may object, say it's just racism, when westerners claim their
culture is superior to all others. But name a culture where the
people in that culture do not believe that their own culture is
superior to all other cultures. They may think that their current
system of government or their economic system is not superior, but
they will still believe that their culture is superior. It would be
unnatural, and would mean they had been "conditioned", for them to
think otherwise.]
Sorry, but I almost spat out my tea! How pretentious can you get?

What does that mean? That they don't get any funding? That they can't

Well, one can see why. It has racial overtones, and overlaps with the
previous statements of some rather nasty extremist groups. They do
sound like a group of nutters. Probably very stupid, but that isn't
the point. Are they a threat to anyone?

It doesn't resonate in the heart and mind of any decent citizen,
whatever their political views.

And as it's a religious institution, I can well believe that. The
mainstream churches are catholic or universal in their inclusion of
all believers.

Which is a reasonable point, I would have thought.

Why 'purported'?

I would imagine that it also has a Young Republican (or whatever they
call themselves) organisation, and other groups that I would probably
call conservative.
I've just looked them up. There is a 'College Republican' group, and
even a 'Libertarian' group (which I would find pretty weird, but
that's not the point).
What made you think that you could get away with this deception?
You really are a sad little man, aren't you?

Which goes to show how tolerant they are....but they obviously draw
the line at racialists and bigots...

I would imagine that they are supportive of the civil rights of sexual
minorities. Only an idiot would confuse this with the advocacy of a
sexual personality (as if homosexuality could be
proselytised!).....someone like you....

We could debate this, but it is not germane to the thread. Suffice it
to say that you know nothing about modern thinking or theology in
mainstream Christianity.

Ahhhh, hypocrisy, the hypocrisy of winter, how charming.
If this had been about a college supporting the dems or the commies
this would have been a plea to shut them down. But a private college,
privately, said no. That's their right.
I suggest you might not want to matriculate there.
Idiot.
Of course if any of these drooling racist morons tried to get into a
psych. school, a Journalism school or a history school they should be
gently shown the door. No psychotic should be let in. Now in
business school psychotics get along quite well.
So many people can no longer think for themselves, they simply exhibit
conditioned responses. Like you, when they hear the non-PC bell ring
then Pavlovian-like they slobber out the nonsensical propaganda
they've absorbed over the years. It's rather sad.
You posted and excellent piece, Mr. Barnes. I don't know if it's true,
but folklore has it that it is Jewish posters who respond to everything
with insults and flames when they find it threatening to their agenda.
By observing what causes them to strike out with insults, you can infer
their own agenda.
Another tan klanner who thinks that Brown Pride isn't racism.
