Not for any particular reason, although we have been enjoying our boxes
of Oreos.

I was wandering back and forth through the old messages on Google this
afternoon, and came across this beauty.

Aww. And five years later, we're still here. And, I hope, five years
later and Shannon is still living up to his side of the bargain.

Five years.

That's a fucking long time to not tell somebody they have a bit of
spinach in their teeth.

Sorry Shaz, I was going to tell you last Easter but I thought that
giant chocolate Saruman would dislodge it.

Well, yeah.

I actually cleared a backlog of old ones last night. Now we're working
through the double-chocolate box, and they are good indeed.

They are. Technically, I should work 7.5 hours, and be out by 3:30,
but when things are quiet they let me leave early.

"Fuck off, fatty," they say affectionately in Finnish. They know I can

We can't speak for the rest of the Finnish population (who the
Estonians are free to maim, kill and rob as they wish), but we have
never been drunk in Estonia.

In fact, every time I've been over to Estonia, my in-laws have been so

And then the truck was invented, and the Russians were trucked out of
Finland by the truckload, except for the Russian mail-order brides for
fat men called Pekka, who were trucked in by the truckload in the same
trucks as they made the return voyage to pick up more Russians with
whom the Finns no longer had any truck.

Unusual for a Tsar to have considerate policies to anyone at all,

Not really depending on anything. They were tosspots across the board.
They probably even insisted that comic books over a certain length
should be called "graphic novels".

No no, Alexander II. Not Alexander I.

Different chaps.

Alexander I beat up Napoleon. Alexander II was a reformer and bit the
bad end of a bomb thrown at him by The People's Will (a revolutionary
group).

>> Got him killed in the end, of course, so it was probably a bad idea.

Oh, it was.

At least initially. They had to pay back a certain amount of wages,
that took well over 9 + years to do so, if not longer. There's more
detail than that, but I want to go and read AFFC right now, not talk
about Russian history.

But hey - he freed serfs without starting a civil war or getting
assassinated by the gentry. For his time, on his terms, that's an
accomplishment.

Amazingly, I think you're right.

It's those hats you wear, and the facial hair. No, not the huge fuzzy
hats and the big bearlike facial hair. I'm talking about the little
wanky hats and the little wanky facial hair.

[C] How quaint. You would have gotten along very well in the 17th
Century.

[J] Of course, once there is more than one person living in said
country, problems arise.

[J] We thought so too. He convened our parliament for the first time
in fifty years. So we set up a statue for him in Helsinki - quite
demonstratively, we erected said statue after he'd died, when his son
refused to convene parliament.

Once upon a time - for example, 30 Nov 2005 11:37:04 -0800 - there was

this guy, or something, called "Brinner" <keatin...@gmail.com>,
and they made us all feel better by saying the following stuff:
