Thought you might be interested in taking part in a poll I've just launched
over at fnaffle.com. Basically trying to figure out who out of Terry's
artwork artists (Josh Kirby and Paul Kidby) is the more popular.
http://www.fnaffle.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16
Personally I have to favour Josh simply because he was there first and his
pictures really capture the essence of DW but please vote using the link
above and post messages to let me know your thoughts!
When we get a conclusion I'll post the results here in AFP !
regards!

Graham Higgins is, IMO. He's also produced more Discworld-related
art than any of the others, since each of the Big Comics is a
significant body of work in itself.
Josh's work is fine, but, IMO, it's "Josh Kirby with a Discworld
feel" - he was painting in that style long before Discworld. I find
Paul's work to be a little *too* exact, too controlled; Graham's
stuff is far rawer and more vivid (as well as being funnier) -
think of his Hogfather from last year's DW Calender; or the Soul
Cake Duck from the '98 Con magazine cover.
(Another point: Kidby's Vimes, while well-drawn, is recognizably
based on Clint Eastwood. This, to me, is a negative point. I know
that Vimes has a lot of his lines, but I prefer a Vimes who looks
*original*; since Vimes is a cop from a *genre* of cops, not just
Dirty Harry.)
Furthermore (although this is irrelevant), Graham is involved far
more closely with Pterry's readers than the other two are; I think
it gives him a better understanding of the fandom and the way they
see things.
(I think that Graham is certainly the best-known DW artist here on
AFP; I really can't see Kidby or Kirby putting Colm Buckley into a
green-and-purple outfit in one of their books.)
All of this is, of course, purely my own opinion, and not intended
as anything else. Each to their own.

Well, I think you're speaking for me too...

Don't forget Graham Higgins' excellent work!
Rather than just a popularity vote, why not discuss the merits of
each?

Good idea! The poll over at fnaffle is pretty much a pop vote but you an
post replies in the forum to discuss their strengths and weaknesses - the
poll is very quiet at the mo but the more people who get voting and posting
the more interesting the results will be!
