- export of *what* ?
- do these "experts" not recall the wholesale destruction of the
uk's industrial & manufacturing base wreaked [a] by the insane
monetary policies of the tories in the latter seventies through
the eighties under the sainted dame margaret hilda & major-minor?
- the only area that i'm aware of the uk - well, london - 's being
still a world leader is that somewhat euphemistically referred to
as "financial services": and not only are these liable to trail the
rest of the world economy in coming out of recession...
..they're the same bloody idiots as got us into this mess in the
first place.

"lost!? _how_ can you get lost in a _lift_?
it only goes up and down!"

Apparently Labour have done more damage since 1997 to the manufacturing
base than the Tories did.

I can't read the entire article here, but that's not what the summary
says. What it says is that manufacturing's importance to the UK's
economy has declined, not that it has been damaged /per se/. It also
doesn't state, directly, that it was New Labour who did the deed
themselves; consider that w^wbankers and estate agents got a bigger
di^wfinger in the pie all over the Western world, in that period.
That said, if New Labour _did_ do all that damage, it's a testimony to
the success of their copying of Thatcherite and Neo-Con policies.
