What do you think? Oh, this makes me wonder, how come YOU have never bought
any of my work? I am going to FL in June to work on this project... place
your orders NOW!
-Muuurgh
I've never set up a PayPal account, but I've heard it allows you to
insure the money is in the bank, so to speak, before you send the
merchandise. Not sure I'm right on that.
But I suspect he's not legit based solely on the fact that he's from the
scam capital of the planet.
What project are you going to work on in Florida?

Kennedy,
I'm humbled that you like my work. The Seaworthy #4 is for sale for
$1,000. The "Untitled" bronze is not for sale, as it is my first and only
bronze. I Believe that I still have a "Lizards" print left 9 of 10 for 50$
and the "Sunflower Seed" was a maquette I made in undergrad, so it is quite
small. I would be happy to make a bigger version for you, or you could buy
this one for $80.
The Seaworthy Project pieces are my pride and joy. Have you been to my
Seaworthy Project website: www.seaworthyproject.com ?
The reason I point this out is because there are 2 ways of displaying my
art work. You may buy a dried out piece like the one you asked for or a
piece that remains in the water for display in an aquarium. The Seaworthy
Series is a work in which my pottery is placed in the ocean for at least one
year (some have been under water for 5 years). While underwater, organisms
grow on the clay body. Again, please see my site for under water video and
photography of the project and the organisms which inhabit the works.
I hope this has been helpful. Please feel free to ask any questions that
you may have.

Seaworthy. Still have 30 + pots down there recruiting organisms. I'm
hoping to have some decent coral growth on some, if the hurricanes haven't
wiped them out.

Scam, scam, scam, scam. Did I mention "scam?" Listen to Mrrrov just
this once. Or tell him you'll be happy to deal with him when he has his
notebook refund in his hands and is willing to forward the proper amount
to your PayPal account. Only then will you turn over anything to his
shipping company. You get the money via PayPal and then you ship.
Otherwise, you're gonna get took. Tooked. Tooken. Scammicized.
Earth calling Muuurgh; Earth calling Muuurgh. The guy is from NIGERIA!
Over.
Yes, yes. To O'Bill-Wan you listen.
I'm not against selling stuff to people from Africa per se, but this
notebook refund thing (I didn't even fully understand it) SCREAMS scam.
As Bill said (well, I'm paraphrasing), if you hold the money in your
hand or have it in your PayPal or CC account, send away whatever they
want, but not before that.
How should I word my response?:
Kennedy,
I will ship these works to you after I have received payment in full. I
prefer Pay Pal, but a money order will do.
Thank you,
Craig
-Muuurgh
I love it, Oli"you have made my day"ver! Thanks! Now to whom shall I
spam this link first.....?
Craigmuuurgh, I think you first need to research how PayPal works. I
understand it serves to protect sellers as well as buyers, but I don't
know the details. I've been led to believe that for a small percentage
of the sales price, they insure neither the buyer nor the seller gets
scammed. How that can work, I'm not really sure. But I think that's
the general idea.
Now you have a couple of choices:
1) If I'm right about PayPal, which is questionable, then that's the
only route you should consider.
2) If I'm right about the scammitude of this guy's offer, which is much
much much much much less questionable, you should just brush him off.
But which route to choose?
I'm looking into my crystal ball .... I see .... something .... looks
like .... it's a 2! It's a 2! In bold type! It's a 2!
LISTEN TO MRRROV! LISTEN TO OLIVER! LISTEN TO BILL! IGNORE C'PI!
(Wait, C'Pi hasn't commented yet. Well, whatever he says, should he ever
say anything, ignore it. Never enter into a fiduciary arrangement with
someone from Nigeria and never listen to C'Pi: The Two Cardinal Rules Of
The Internet.)
I never listen to him anyway.
If I had cash in my hand before I ship the product, how could I be troubled
(other than Mrrov says that I didn't ask enough for the seaworthy vessel)?
I wanted to send an email to him, more out of curiosity than anything else.
Mrrov may not approve.... she really is the intelligent one in this
relationship. Could you have guessed?
-Muuurgh
1) Really, investigate PayPal.
2) Extend my expressions of admiration to Mrrov.
I ignored it.

(hotmail addy is a red herring; I'm darth dot lefty at gee em ay eye el)
Some places who do mail order used to sit on orders for three weeks to
make sure the check cleared before sending your goods. I don't know if
that's still common, as I haven't ordered with anything other than a CC
or PayPal in forever.
If he's sincere he'll find some legit way to pay you.
I think y'all are being just a wee bit silly. Forget Paypal. If the guy is
willing to send you money, in whatever form it ends up then do it. As long
as you are not giving away your bank account info or sending out the
merchandise before the cashiers check or money order clears then there isn't
really any risk. No offense, but I don't think there's really a big
Nigerian scam ring going around bilking people out of clay pots covered in
barnacles.
C'Pi
That's not how it works. Did you see the part about how the guy in
Nigeria wasn't going to actually send money? That in fact, he had
bought a notebook (computer I suppose) that cost $3500 but now he's
returning it and Muuurgh is supposed to "deduct" the cost of the artwork
from that and give the rest of the money along with the artwork to the
guy's shipping company. Did you see that part? Hmm? It's not really
clear, but clear enough for me to consider it a scam.
If Muuurgh doesn't do something stupid, yeah, I know, big if, then
everything should be ok. As long as money is being sent to him and he is
not sending out his own money what's the problem? He just has to be
cautious and any time they ask him to involve his own money or express a
need for a bank account number then he can back away. As long as he doesn't
get suckered into doing something stupid he can sell some of his work. I'd
at least take the next step if I was him and see what happens.
C'Pi
The purchaser has the option to leave it in the ocean with photographs of
the work sent to them every year--I also have the capability to have
underwater webbroadcasting as well, or remove the pottery from the ocean and
either dry it out or have it shipped in seawater for your at home aquarium.
-Muuurgh
It sounds too confusing to be legit. Does Nigeria
even have water to keep your pots in?
When I am very rich*, I will buy some of your
work. Until then, I can only pay you in ginger
ale and deli meats.
