ST:NF #6 question

I'm halfway through now and it's implied that Morgan Primus has been
on the Enterprise. I'm guessing taht this was either a TNG episode
or a previous PAD novel, but could anyone tell me which one?
It doesn't ring a bell in my tiny sieve-like memory.

You guys are completly hopeless and pathetic. Morgan Primus didn't want to go
on the Enterprise because she thought Lefler was still there. Lefler served on
the Enterprise, and dated Wesley.
I wonder why Padguy didn't explain it to you guys.....

I wish I had the book in front of me, so I could attempt to refute this, but
perhaps others would back me up. I've been under the impression that Morgan
was in captivity, or at least far enough out of the Starfleet loop, long before
Lefler joined the Enterprise, causing there to be other reasons why she didn't
want to go to the Enterprise...
And besides, when I asked PAD about Morgan, he remained mysteriously silent.
Had it been as obvious as Shimra suggests, I suspect he would have just told
me...

That doesn't explain a number of statements spread through the book--such as
Morgan feeling at home in the second-in-command position, knowing exactly how
to save the ship (where did she learn to handle Starfleet systems?), and the
double take she did when Calhoun called Shelby "Number One"...
And I for one would like to know who the blazes Captain Binky is, too...

Paramount gutted several key threads out of the book, including an entire
sequence where Calhoun and Shelby got into a practical joke war.
In book six, while Shelby was still in sickbay, she was slightly delirious from
her head injury and was cheerfully saying, "Look at all the pretty bunnies!
Bunnies everywhere!" (An in-joke reference to "Space Cases," by the way, but we
won't go into it.) Calhoun subsequently created a fake computer-generated
transmission which Shelby received on the bridge: Captain Binky and the crew
of the U.S.S. Hutch, who had come to commend Shelby on her bravery and quick
thinking under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, and present her with
their highest honor: A 21-Bun salute.
It was all fun and a bit silly and Paramount hated it and ordered it cut, along
with the rest of the joke war, and the true nature of the Prometheans.
But apparently one reference to Captain Binky slipped through.
It was also Paramount's determination to forbid any mention of Ensign Janos as
being a Mugato. One of those slipped through, however, so now Janos is, in
fact, a Mugato.
I am starting to get a bit alarmed, though, that after leaving us alone for the
first four books (to great success with the fans) they're starting to
choke-hold us.

Damn. I wish I could have read that....a series of scenes like that would
give both Shelby and Calhoun a little more character depth and done wonders for
helping to define their relationship. Calhoun comes across as so deadly serious
most of the time it would have been nice to see him as capable of a sly sense
of humor.
This explains quite a lot, actually; I got the sense all through this book
that scenes were missing, that some things didn't quite 'jibe'. Chapter VI for
example, where there's a series of scenes in the team room and we get mention
of Shelby and Calhoun involved in an 'animated discussion' - and don't hear
another word about it, though the chapter follows through on the other couples
in the team room at the time. And I did think it really odd that there was no
evidence that Calhoun had bothered to 'check up' on his First Officer during
the time she was in sickbay; didn't feel in character....any chance of telling
us what else got cut? Interested fans want to know!

I sincerely hope that they lighten their touch; the fans can spot when
Paramount's been heavy-handed with an author a mile off. Sigh....

After reading the original message my first thought was that I have to
do something to help. But in this case I was informed that writing to
Paramount would be the worst thing we can do. Putting any pressure on
them might result in cancelling New Frontier.
Now that everybody has more time for creating this series, these
teething problems should become less and less serious and hopefully will
go away completely in time.
Hm, I wonder.... Perhaps one day there might be a second edition of New
Frontier 6 :-)

I must be some sort of nitwit. It seems to me that, after the success of the
first 4 books, they wouldn't see the need to "edit" these stories to such a
great degree as to either remove entire scenes or remove small sections that
they don't approve of.
If the books sell, let the author do their thing.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
For some reason or another, I'm having a nasty case of deja vu - all over
again.

Sorry to be so hopeless and pathetic, but the line I was referring to
has Morgan say that she had a bad experience with a ship called Enterprise
in the past. Having finished the book, I now realise that that could
be any Enterprise, and that it's likely going to be explained in a future
book rather than a throwaway.
Thanks for reminding me who Lefler was, though.

It will be out in September and the title is "Once Burned"
What I learned about it already made me very curious. It could very well
