I. What is DragonWeb
DragonWeb is the unofficial Pern Fandom Welcommittee,
sponsored by Argon of Cantee. DragonWeb publishes a
quarterly list of active Pern fan groups.
II. Qualifying for a Listing
In order to qualify for a listing, a group must:
a) accept offline members.
b) have a regularly published (hardcopy) newsletter or
fanzine.
c) generally follow the rules set down by Anne
McCaffrey for Pern fan groups.
A group is considered to meet the second qualification if
it has published at least one newsletter or fanzine in the
previous twelve months. Listed groups which fail to meet
this requirement will be removed from this listing.
As for the third qualification, Anne's rules are briefly
summarized here:
1) No one may use any of the people or dragons that
have appeared in any of Anne's novels or stories.
This also prohibits having one of Anne's
character's as an ancestor or using her characters
in fan fiction in any way.
2) All fan activities take place on alternate versions
of Pern, none are allowed on the "real" Pern that
Anne sets her novels and stories on.
3) No male characters on golds, no female characters on
bronzes.
4) No group may set up as Benden Weyr or Rautha Hold.
5) With a few exceptions for the oldest Pern fan
groups, no "sport" dragon colors may be used.
6) Groups that operate online may not publish fan
fiction online. This prohibits online interactive
stories and online roleplaying (which are almost
the same thing anyway) as well as uploading fan
fiction to online file areas. This does not
prohibit the development of characters online or
the general discussion of specific pieces of fan
fiction online, so long no stories are being
published online.
If your group meets all the above qualifications and would
like to be added to the next quarterly DragonWeb listing,
please get in contact with me at any of my addresses. I'll
need to know the name of your group, the name of your
group's newsletter or fanzine, and the snail mail address
of a contact person for your group.
CrystalMush (moink.nmsu.edu 6886) also has permission from AM
to recreate her Crystal_Singer/Killashandra world.

I wrote to Anne prior to the opening of Harper's Tale MOO and also got
permission. For the curious, you can logon (netman.widener.edu 8888)
and read '@read 1 on *anne', as I loaded her reply into a mailing list online
so anyone can read it.

Flamewar? Over what? The fact that Anne has chosen to deal differently
with different aspects of her fandom? What I uploaded is the rules and
regs used by those online groups that publish pernese fanfiction. [tho'
I think Randall erred on #6, but this is not the place to debate it with
him -- I can do that on GEnie :)] Pern Fandom (to differentiate it from
PernMUSH, etc) writes fiction based on worlds designed upon her
universe. Although there is role-playing involved, it's not a role
playing =game=. There's differents in approach and application and
because of this, she's laying down different rules. I, for one, have no
objections to this. So you'll get no flaming from me. :)
