Excellent hour of programming last night. Got to give hats off to
Fallon for bringing it off so nicely. He worked very well with the
fellas. This is how it should be done.

My second favorite Pythion Palin wasn't there, but he was on with them
when they did Regis this morning, btw, Regis shpuld just retire, he
had no idea what who they were, do some research.

Gilliam is now a total creep, his defending of Polanski has soured me
on him, I always felt he was strange but this just cements that, I
read an interview with Cleese and he doesn't seem to care for him at
all either.

I only saw bits and pieces of the show, and I missed the first 5 or 10
minutes, but I was very disappointed that Michael Palin wasn't
there. Did they ever say why he wasn't there ? He's my second
favorite too (right behind Cleese) so it just wasn't the same without
him.
Michael Palin's travel videos are great...highly recommended.
I just wish we saw more of him lately.

I guess he wasn't in NYC yet.

That Fallon show was dreadful - and I blame Fallon for it, who geeked
out more than got any interesting conversation going (although he did
get them talking about Peter Cook and Dudley Moore a lot, which you
don't hear the Pythons do in many mainstream interviews).

The Pythons did what they could, but it was a struggle.

But a mostly hilarious struggle.

And hats off to whoever selected the clips, nearly all classic moments.
A bit too much from Holy Grail, but we hardly ever get to see the
fish-slapping dance anywhere else.

You think Fallon was directing things? i give him credit for just not
getting in the way, not stepping on lines, being a decent supporting
foil, not going all giggly like he was known to do in the SNL years.
The Pythons seemed to like him too.

(for instance Letterman could never have deferred like that or even
partaken with the boys. Last night he repeatedly got in the way of Don
(literally: he kept repeating Rickles' lines until Don ridiculed him
for it; even then Dave couldn't stop. If it was his big plan to
irritate or mock irritate Don, then congrats.) ; he also kept bringing
up old stories for Don to once again rehash. The one about Sinatra
saving Shecky Green's life was a rather morose, unfunny story that
Letterman called on of his favorites. Rickles even concluded that it
figures miserable Dave would like that one. Dave had to be the
ringleader, and Rickles was polite enough to go along.) See the Kimmel
1 hour fete of Rickles from '07 to witness a special hour that showed
off Rickles to best effect.

New York Times headline:

"David Letterman leaps into freezing Hudson, single-handedly saves
entire crew of sinking ship at risk of own life. Ship's cat only
fatality!"

CliffB posts, "Liberal fag Letterman is cat killer!"

Huh?

Did I miss something?

What a piece of crap!

Of course, maybe that's because I remember the live Aspen Python special
- THIS is how it SHOULD be done:

As far as one-off late night talk show get-togethers, it was good
programming. Definitely a cut above the usual routine.

No chance of Dave putting out an act of courage like that. If he would
I'd apllaud it, but it will rest forever inert as one of your idle
Dave fantasies.

Which explains why this is only the second time I've watched Fallon...

Oh dear.

And here was me thinking that there couldn't *really* be anyone out
there who believed that "irony" meant "something like heavy metal".

Mea Culpa. Mea Maxima Culpa.
