though that must have been around a decade ago now.
I've toyed with the idea of coming up with a set of Google Earth
placemarks for "The Wizard of Speed and Time" but lacked the ability
to accurately determine locations for many of the shots.
That changed once Google expanded their Street View coverage. I've got
quite a few already, and I'm working on adding more. It wasn't too
hard to locate some of the spots such as the "You Are the Star" mural,
but I was suprised that it wasn't too difficult to locate others such
as the camera shop exterior or the donut shop.
Some spots have changed dramatically, and at least one is gone now.
(Tail of the Pup, where the Canadian thug bought some supper for the
police dog) In another shot a particularly large building I was trying
to find was apparently demolished to make way for the Kodak Theater.
One thing that's really become apparent as I add locations is just how
tight they kept the area where they filmed. I knew they were on an
incredibly short schedule, but it's pretty amazing how they were able
to use locations repeatedly just by changing the angle of a shot or
how far they were 'zoomed.'
It's still a work in progress as I sift through the scenes and add
more that I've managed to locate. After making a series of updates,
I'll probably be putting up a list in the file comments section, as
indeed I already did.
If you like it and want other folks to know about it, please just
provide the link. It will mean they know where to get updates to the
list as they're added. :)

heh, thanks! Even today I've added a few such as a couple of locations
in downtown LA from one of the Animato shorts and fixed up a few other
placemarks.

Tail Of The Pup was standing until '05 when it demolished for a gay &
lesbian retirement home. They had very good junk food reasonable
priced.

I knew it had closed, but was it actually demolished or just moved
elsewhere into storage? Hard to believe that a near-70-year-old landmark
would've been torn down without a big stink being raised. Then again, a
big stink wasn't enough to save the equally-revered Jayburger.

I'm sure you're right: just moved. It says in the article the owner
famly plans to re-open i the future. Also, since Chicago Dogs closed
in the Valley (I think that was the name - the one that was at Ventura
under the 405 offramp) , there's now only Pink's for a good, greasy,
cheap meal in L.A.

to L.A. very often. One time, at least a year ago, I drove the Blvd.

Rubin's Red Hots. That's how much I loved their redhots. I didn't know
at the time that it was already demolished for the 405 expansion :| Do

Sadly, Rubin's is still gone. However, Ribs USA is a place owned by the
same owner of Rubin's Red Hots. Most of their food is 'eh", but they have
the same hot wings (which I loved from Rubin's). Get those and the spicy
fries and it's almost like being back across the street from the gallaria in
1985.
