That monologue wasn't any funnier on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Less so
the fourth time around.

Another of those telling moments; when Dave was talking to Jodie Foster
about Mel Gibson's problems and the audience was laughing at the end of his
every sentence. Dave says, "I don't know why they're laughing...", when, in
fact, he knows that's what they've been commanded to do.

Dreesen - has it been a year already?

I thought Neon Trees were pretty good, maybe just compared to Wednesday
night's act. I wondered who the kids who made up the chorus were and was
disappointed Dave didn't ask.

You *can*.

Nobody here wants to interfere with your right to paint yourself blue
with pink polka-dots and stand in Times Square shouting "BUSH BLEW UP
THE WORLD TRADE CENTER!!" if that's what turns your crank. And what
with freedom of speech and all that, it's good odds that no black
helicopters will wind up hovering above your home at 2:00 AM as a
result.

But what you find unnattractive about Dave's comedy routines appears
even less attractive when coming from someone who's more and more
becoming an obsessive one-note-samba on a subject that's already been
covered extensively, is ultimately pointless -because it can have no
effect other than to make you feel better- and which you, unlike Dave,
do not get paid for.

> I'm not even get paid!

Yes. Exactly.

So in Dave's case we have two factors: (A) like all comedians he
repeats his successful comedy routines over and over, and (B) he gets
paid *very* well for doing so. So it's easy for most of us to
understand *why* he repeats jokes.

In your case we have only one factor: You *aren't* a very well paid
comedian, yet you keep repeating the same pointless -and humorless-
riff over and over again.

See the difference?

What's understandable -if not laudatory- behavior in a professional
performer is *not* understandable when it comes from someone who is
not.

The logical fallacy you're making here is the assumption that because
"A" is false then "Z" must be true, without considering that there
were all those other letters in between. Example: creationists like to
pretend that if they can cast doubt on Darwin then it proves that
Biblical Creationism *must* be true. (It doesn't; even if they could.
Because those aren't the only two possibilities.)

And, as I was careful to point out, you're free to do whatever you
like.

But I can assure you that while our collective shit does indeed stink,
pretending that that entitles you to serve yours here as a regular
entree isn't going to sell you many meals.

> I'll carry on with my opinions on Dave.
> Don't read 'em if you don't want to.

If you'd stop compulsively inserting the "Dave's not living up to the
expectations I'm entitled to" bit into unrelated threads then it
wouldn't be a problem.

skirt the real issues and argue semantics.

Every child's excuse for tuning out unwanted information: "It's a

In it's classsic form it's followed shortly by putting your fingers in
your ears, closing your eyes, jumping up and down in one spot, and
yelling "NYAH! - NYAHH! - NYAHH! I - CAN'T - HEEEEEAR - YOU!!"

So when may we expect the rest of the performance?

Yawn.

You and your little team of grammar police are just making things much
worse. Keep baiting me, keep lecturing, and keep policing what I have to
say about Dave. It isn't going to stop me from speaking out when I want to.

When I posted a fun topic entitled "A Positive Late Show Thread" about
two months ago, did you participate? Did Don Giller?
Did Alan? Of course not -- why acknowledge when I'm *not* criticizing
the show? That would weaken your argument. "Jess doesn't blindly love
everything Dave does!!! Get her out of here!! This is for FANS only!!"

The tiny remaining core of "regulars" here still think they own the

I suppose it's easy to go to this place to stir up trouble.

Going to alt.fan.jay-leno you'd get little reaction.

I know quite a bit about Letterman, and I've been watching LN (and then
LS) for 25+ years. I think that qualifies me as a "fan". Maybe I'm not a
FANATIC, in that I don't love *everything* Mr. Letterman does. I suspect
you don't either, but for whatever political reasons you choose not to
express that here.

In any case, *most* of my posts are on-topic. Maybe a majority aren't
glowing, blubbering "Dave is great!" posts, but they are typically about
the *show*. The only time that gets sidetracked is when people start
complaining about grammar or punctuation, or that the content is not
positive enough for their liking.

Keep in mind, from day one I've never been made to feel welcome by
anyone here except Sally. You flaunt your inside jokes and your cliques,
and your DaveCon stories, and all of that is a huge turn-off to
outsiders. Turn the mirror on yourselves once in a while. Many of you
have acted extremely condescending and quite arrogant, often pointing
out your intellectual superiority over me. I don't have a PhD. Never
really wanted one. I'm just a Harley-ridin' carpet muncher who works on
a silly morning show & plays bass in a punk band. Believe it or not,
Dave has always been one of my biggest heroes. Maybe I'm just dreaming
that he'll go out on top, instead of what the show has been reduced to
over the last five years. However, a true fan rides out the peaks and
valleys. This is just a valley, hopefully.

I think it was when, from day one, you referred to everyone here as
lemmings or ass-fucks or simpletons or whatever other tired cliches
you could come up with that pretty much shied most of us away from
you.

And when you returned, your desperate cries for attention, repeatedly

unwelcome in here in the first place.

No one's stopping you from your childish behavior, but maybe you'll
eventually realize that most of us here aren't responding to you not
because you think you've built a solid foundation of mature argument
but rather because they understand what a colossal waste of energy
it'll be, knowing that all they'll receive in return are more juvenile
insults.

And, no, this isn't a dialogue, so whatever pearls of wisdom you

Well, God knows I try, Lucy!

I've been behind international stagflation, pollution, extraordinary
rendition, religious discontent, the Jews, the Masonic Temple, the Tea
Party, global warming and white slavery for decades now; and I figure
it's about time I got a little credit!

If you honestly believe that's so, then how come you're the one crying
that you get no respect when -so far as it's possible to tell-
nobody here cares whether you respect them or not?

Hon, sometimes it's best to get these things out in the open;
uncomfortable though it is.

Are you responsible for Will Ferrell's career?

This would be where you add "pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name"....r

I go away to spend Mother's Day Eve with my mother, spend Sunday at AT&T
Park watching the Giants shutout the Colorado Rockies whilst sweeping the
weekend series and afl remains the same.

(Blush) As a Blues musician I should probably have thought of that,
but I never was much of a Stones fan.

Besides; selling your soul to the Devil at a crossroads at midnight
plays hell with one's memory.

Which reminds me of a joke.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A great Blues-Harp player passes on and (surprise!) wakes up in
Heaven.

Saint Pete says "Welcome to the band, my son! We've got the best
Blues Band in eternity, and we'd like you to play in it!"

"Cool!" says the player; "But I thought that we all ended up down
below in Fiddler's Green?"

"Naw", says Pete. "I'm producing, we've got Lady Gay and Janis Joplin
singing harmony leads, Robert Johnson's on guitar, and Max Roach is on
drums, among others. Would you like to sit in?"

"You bet!" says the harp player, and makes sure he shows up on time
for the first practise session.

Everybody is about ready to go when this long-haired young guy wearing
a black cowboy hat shows up, uncases a Strat with the initials "SRV"
engraved in the pickguard, and starts tuning up.

"Wow!", says the harp player to Saint Peter, "Stevie Ray Vaughan! You
didn't tell me that you had him up here too!"

"Well, not quite," says Saint Pete. "That's actually Jesus.

He just *thinks* he's Stevie Ray Vaughan."

Jodie Foster note: I was working for American Express when the "do you know me?"
ad campaign morphed into the "My American Express" program...that's where they
got big pictures of famous people--actors, musicians, writers, athletes,
political big names--and printed them like posters along with some text about
how having an American Express card benefited even someone recognizable and
important...the portraits were all shot by Annie Liebowitz, and because I was in
the company I got some internal literature that interviewed her about the
experience of photographing all these famous faces for an ad campaign....

They asked if anyone had been difficult to work with, and she singled out Jodie
Foster as a challenge...not, I hasten to point out, because she was
uncooperative or anything like that, but because every prop or background Annie
tried to set her up with, she'd morph completely into whatever character the
gimmick suggested...she said she couldn't get a picture out of Foster that gave
any insight into her own soul because her personality was completely submerged
into the role she took on from the scenery....r

That being the case, I hate to think what she may have taken away from
her recent work with Mel Gibson -who she claims to respect...

Oog.

It's a "Doctor, it hurts when I do *this*" situation;
if she's getting lost in the props,
then don't give her the props.
Sounds like it was Liebowitz's fault, not Foster's.

What amazes me is this thread has continued over one person's dislike
of us or not
feeling welcome. I say let's get over it and grow the fuck up.

Free hint, Bill: posting annoying insults of your own is not a likely
way to end a thread.

I think he was saying "let's" as in "Let US" meaning YOU.
A two-way street. Mutual moving on -- for everyone.

Good work snipping the rest of my comment, doofus.
The part that said "all of us move on".
You're good like that.
