Letterman favorite wins award

Lee Marek, science teacher extraordinaire and a Letterman regular, from
Naperville (or as he would say, "Napierville"), Illinois is one of ten
Chicago area teachers this year to win a Golden Apple award for excellence
in teaching.
Those of you from Chicago may be interested to know that the awards
ceremony, which was already shown once Wednesday night, will be shown
again this Sunday, May 31 at 6 p. m. Here's a very brief excerpt from
"Eleven" magazine, a publication of one of our local PBS stations.

"If you watch Late Night with David Letterman, you may have seen
Naperville North High School chemistry and physics teacher Lee Marek.
Through the creation of "Weird Science" Marek turns a mundane science
lesson into an unforgettable experience - so much so that his experiments
that bubble, crackle, and explode have made him a star.
Marek's "minds-on" approach to teaching gives students the
opportunity to grow intellectually and to increase their problem-solving
skills by actively constructing their own knowledge."
