I do love me a good train wreck of a bit...three tries and Paul never did figure
out what time it was in Rome....

(The earlier gag, during the monologue, when Inky held up giant playing cards
and Dave kept saying "hit me" until he made 21...was that some kind of tribute
to Las Vegas Gambit, one of the game shows that NBC replaced his morning show
with back in 1980?)...r

That "train wreck" may have been scripted to play out that way.
