Wonderful to see the Derek Jeter photo again. Never gets old.
Not impressed with Roy Haynes. When did the solo begin and end?
Was it the entire song? It wasn't defined enough, and just seemed
like he was over-playing throughout. It was very clear when Anton
took his solo.
Looks like Tony Mendez was back tonight.
Enjoyed Jon Cryer and Rachel Maddow.
Don't need to hear the Kervorkian/FedEx guy joke a fourth time.

We had a great DaveCon yesterday. You probably heard me and Dr. Rod
laughing our heads off as soon as Dave mentioned the photo, and then we
totally lost it once he showed it on the monitors.

Roy Haynes was great. We saw the bass player out walking on the street
with his bass. Didn't realize who it was when we saw him before the
show, but talked to him for a second after the show and told him what a
great job he did.

Yes, Tony wore the DaveCon button we gave him during the show.
Throughout the breaks, other staffers checked it out and asked about it.
Tony also yelled "Helen!" at the top of his lungs to get my attention
during one of the breaks.
Look for us all on an upcoming Tony Mendez Show. Unfortunately, Tony was
not able to hang with us at dinner this year, but it was great to see
him. Tony couldn't believe it has been 12 years.

Yup, they were great guests. Rod and I had terrific seats up in front on
Alan Kalter's side. Great view of Dave for the monologue and the guest
segments.
Oh, and Marilyn got called on for the pre-show Q&A. Dave remarked that
she looks like his sister Gretchen. Marilyn asked Dave if he remembered
the guy who came on the show with the David Letterman Tulip Poplar
(yes), and told him that she has the Dave Tree in Connecticut. She
wanted to tell him how it got to her from Vermont, but ran out of time.

We loved that joke. Rod started clapping as soon as Dave mentioned
Kevorkian is dead. It's really much funnier when you are in the theater.
We also cracked up when he said that the Al Qaeda people have been
having a hard time lately.
It was great show, and great to see everyone.
Thanks to Mike McIntee for helping out with the TMS and the Celebrigum
photo shoot.

Good show. Jon Cryer was entertaining and Dave asked all the questions I
would have liked to ask. Another good Q & A with Rachel Maddow. I'm an old
rock 'n roll drummer, so I was impressed by Roy Haynes, who, while not as
energetic as Anton Fig or Sheila E., brought some fun complexity to his
playing. (Plus, cool superhero mask.) Technically not a drum SOLO though.

Baldwin and several LS staffers. They show it after everyone is seated.
Eddie Brill came out briefly to introduce the video, then did his
audience warm-up afterward. We really liked the video. It gets the
information across in a funny, entertaining way.

I totally froze when my solo came up during the TMS taping, but the
gang did an excellent rescue.
When Mike let Foxy and me into the theatre, we were standing next to
Bill D., and out came Jon Cryer, who walked right past us. I
complimented Bill on the excellent security. (Later in the evening,
he did a choke-hold on my neck; I'm now in traction.)
Also had a moment to share good times with the security goon who
locked me up in San Quentin three years ago. We laughed and laughed.
Before the show I videotaped Biff's "Pat melted" taping session.
Doubtful it'll ever leave the iPhone, but what impressed me was the
time and energy it took to prepare such a brief moment for the show.
Afterwards, I chatted with Jerry, gave him the beautifully-inscribed
pen Dr. Rod had distributed, and invited him to the after-show rodeo.
He probably got lost in the basement.
Nice dinner with everyone; had a chance, after 36 years, to spend some
quality time with Mark, Bob, Pat, and the new guy (Anthony). Good
people.

ummm, it's called jazz drumming, which is typically a busier, more
explorative form of drumming. anton and sheila E are more rock
drummers, so the style differs. what amazes me is that roy haynes is
86 years old and still plays like he does.

but I've seen Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Mel Lewis, et al
take solos and I knew that it was a drum solo.

One thing I meant to do was stop in and say hi to Rupert, and ask him
how come we rarely see him on the show anymore. But I didn't arrive
until noon, and after lunch at Angelo's, I went over to check in at my
hotel so that I could ditch my bag, and ended up staying there in the
comfort of air conditioning until it was time to go back and line up for
the show. It was just too damn hot to loiter out on 53rd St.

I hung out with Rupert for much of the afternoon. We were outside,
watching Jon Cryer show up, me explaining to Rupert who Rachel Maddow
was, when a black couple from Kansas City walked up to Rupert. The
woman was so excited to meet him! I asked her what his name was, and
she demurred but still hugged him and had her husband take a photo of
the two of them.
Eddie Brill then walked by; I called out his name, he stopped, came
back, we shook hands. I told the woman that that was Eddie Brill. She
was SO HAPPY -- hugged him, said how excited she was to meet him. All
jolly good fun. After Eddie left to go inside, I asked her if she knew
who he was. She said, "no."
We had a good time.

"and now...Dave Letterman" after all these years of introducing him as
David Letterman. Alan says that came from Dave, who now wants to be
known as Dave Letterman rather than David Letterman. His Mom is still
allowed to call him David.

That reminds me of one time, back in the 20th century, when
Mary Tyler Moore was on the Big Show and she commented on
"Dave" - how intimate & folksy it seemed - as though he
wanted us to believe he's really like that, but she felt
certain that his family & friends all call him "David." He

There were several DVDs: one was a birthday tribute to one of the
participants to which a bunch of folks had contributed. There were two
versions - one to be watched on a tv set, the other on a computer
screen (different dimensions). The other DVD was a collection of all
of the TMS's that included the DaveCon gang.

You are not kidding, it was so hot outside 53rd, that my nuts, I mean
my chocolates had to be cooled in Rupert's coolers....I'm a little
upset that I missed the action outside including meeting Alan Chez,
but I stayed inside Rupert's Deli enjoying a bottled water, a
tropicana orange juice, and a window seat.
