Thanks,

You have never seen this at any other time on SeeBS? To me, it sounds like
one of those glitches induced by a local affiliate when thet switch from
digital to analog simulcast. Impossible for me to say for sure though...

Nope. It started happening a few weeks ago. The only other CBS show I watch

Well, I suspect it's not the network. I don't recall seeing anything like
that here. Only the Fox affiliate here still has a glitch when going from
analog to digital.

What do you mean, "analog to digital"?
well, ya know, that's probably not very accurate. All that stuff is probably
"digitally" stored these days. What I really mean is a switch from local
standard definition tv to network HDTV.
Depends on the cable company, and how the customer is viewing. Those who
have the cable directly to their TV will be affected if/when the cable
company goes to all digital transmission.

I personally know a lot of people with cable still going directly to their
TV. They've been in business long enough to know how to deal with piracy.

I have a digital box, but also use the analog cable as well. That gives
me "record one watch one" capability. I don't have a cable DVR, so I'm
still on VCR for all my time-shifting needs.

there ya go! I never cease to be amazed at what people *think* they know.
February 17, 2009 is going to be a disaster for that very reason.
IMO, even with the cable, if you're planning on keeping those analog TVs,
get a couple of the adapters while the FCC is subsidizing them.

Screw that, I'm just going to start downloading shows from Usenet binaries and
the occasional Torrent...(that gives me almost a year to actually get Torrent
software to work)....
I'll use the TV set to watch DVD box sets...still haven't cracked open the
shrink-wrap on that "Bugaloos: the Complete Series" set....r

What good is being an executive if you never get to execute anyone?
Time-Warner doesn't require a cable box.
I don't follow. Cable subscribers will not be affected by the changeover. My
parents have standard cable and will continue to receive an analog signal
from the cable company.
For now. In the future, the cable company may change, or perhaps your
parents will decide they don't want the cable anymore. I'm merely suggesting
that, if your going to keep analog TV, it's not a bad idea to get an adapter
box for over the air digital while the FCC is subsidizing the purchase.

I don't like watching TV on the computer.

This was a topic of discussion on rec.arts.tv. Currently, some cable
systems provide very good analog service. Charter here in St. Louis is
one such. Others reportedly provide minimal service. At any rate, if
you have cable or satellite the changeover to digital in 2009 has no
impact. It only affects over the air broadcasts.
Even that isn't relevant. If you have digital cable, you can still
watch with an old-style TV, the converter boxes they are selling won't
make any difference. That's because you have to use the cable company's
converter already.
That's easy enough to fix...download, burn to DVD, play it in the living
room....r
at this time.

please do read. what I've said, twice already, is that it's not a bad idea
to get an OTA converter, now while the FCC is subsidizing the purchase, so
you can be covered if you decide to not have cable at some point in the
future. "NOT A BAD IDEA." get it?? I'm not saying you need it, or you must
get one. get it????????

For certain definitions of "easy", I suppose. At any rate, my computer
lacks that ability.
and hey, why would I want to watch TV on a 19" LCD computer monitor, when I
have a 34" HDTV in the other room that is sooooo much better?

don't know what to tell you. I know people doing it, and I'm obviously not

not necessarily. I can't say when, but I guarantee ya cable will eventually
phase out analog. The channel 3 modulator is going to be a dinosaur.

I haven't used a box since I decided there was nothing worth watching on HBO,

You must be forgetting Cinemax's 'After Dark.'

It was okay for a while, but it's even possible to get tired of Sherilyn Fenn

You take that back!
Sacrilege.

To put this back on topic, I watched Craig on a completely different
television in my house last night, and it still went to black for a
moment twice about 10 minutes from the end. If I thought I'd get a
straight answer from Cox (don't go there LOL) after waiting on hold for
an hour, I'd call them. They never have a clue about anything else, so
I'm not going to waste my time.
Marcia
Oh. I somehow missed that you thought it might be your TV. No way. It's
either your local affiliate or your cable company, but neither of them may
be able to actually track it down ...

I figured it was my cable company, but I was willing to give them the benefit
of the doubt one last time. It's still odd to me that it happens both on
analog and digital, whatever it is.
Marcia
The people who deal with customers, meaning salespeople at big box electronics
retailers, have no more insight than consumers. And the people who are going to
be most affected are mostly older and never hooked up to cable/satellite and
they're the toughest ones to reach. And when their TVs go black next February
and they go into Radio Shack to see what can be done, they will probably be
pushed to buy a new TV rather than a converter box. Or sign up for a cable package.
And the funny thing is that the changeover will only really be a disaster for
the networks since their ratings will drop if non-cable households can't get
their stations. They should be the ones subsidizing the converter boxes fully
rather than make the government subsidize them partly.
Tom W
ohhhhh, I can't agree, because they're not the ones who made the decision to
take analog TV off the air.
>

...and??????
I stand by what I said previously, and what you say really has no relevance
to the future.
it does occur to me, however, that if it is truly channel 3, that's not
digital television. The cable transmission may be in a digital form, but if
your TV is getting it on channel 3, it is being converted back to a standard
definition analog signal in the box.
