I still wonder (and he still does it) but I also have noticed that he
then points to his watch and looks at Biff I guess. What is that all
about?
Straight answers are what I'm hoping for.
Why does it matter what he does on the way out to do the show?
Maybe...puzzled
puzzled? about what a straight answer is?

I asked Tony Mendez about Dave's watch thing in May, and he had no
idea. That surprised me, as he no doubt sees him do it every night.

It may be one of those things that Dave does to keep everyone guessing,
and it seems to be doing just that.
Anyone who watches the show knows Dave just enjoys acting silly. Turning his
ass to the audience and pointing at his wrist is about as silly as it gets.
Yeah, making a stylized symbolic gesture that may once have actually meant
something in an earlier context is the silliest thing imaginable...nothing
conceivable by the mind of man could be any sillier than that....

A pessimist sees the glass as half empty.
An optometrist asks whether you see the glass
more full like this?...or like this?
Ahem, pardon me, but he doesn't just "turn his ass" to the audience,
but his entire back. Let's be civil here. And, it is puzzling, but
kind of flirtatious, IMO. It's almost a come-on when he leans against
the post of the set...but that's just a passing thought. As to Maybe
not understanding why it matters, the answer is that everything a
person does onstage in front of an audience matters, or is given
innate meaning by the very fact that he's doing it on a stage. Now, if
he did it in a place where no one could see him do it, it wouldn't be
at all significant. But he is the star of the show, hence, ergo and to
whit, every little movement has a message of its own. Even if Pat
Farmer came out at the start of the show and dumped water on the floor
and began mopping, if the show had started, the audience would wonder
why...

Why do birds suddenly appear every time Dave draws near?
He runs from side to side because it's better exercise than jumping to
conclusions.
