Films - I'm no Barry Norman, but I like to watch them, so I guess it's an
amateur interest thing. My faves are Shallow Grave, R&J, The Empire strikes
back, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Brassed Off.
Music - Radiohead, Catatonia, Jewel and Movie Soundtracks.
Reading - modern fiction mostly. I have recently enjoyed Bridget Jones'
Diary, The Beach, The Regeneration trilogy and A Life Less Ordinary (the
screenplay).
Cooking - Vegetarian, italian-influenced stuff. Lots of calorie-laden
puddings!
Fashion - I love clothes and makeup. Style-wise I would say I'm
classic/urban, with a fondness for retro detailing. My favourite designers
are Calvin Klein, Alberta Ferretti and Pearce Fionda. I'm a lurker on
alt.fashion, where I've developed a love for expensive makeup, including MAC
and Stila, and I indulge my glittery tendancies with Urban Decay and Hard
Candy.

The first book is called The Alienist. It's a murder mystery set in NYC
at the turn of the century. It's full of history, but the story itself
is fiction. It gives lots of info about the beginnings of forensic
science and psychology (an "alienist" was the term used for
psychologists).
The second book is called Angel of Darkness. It's a kidnapping and
murder mystery set in NYC at the turn of the century. I'm only about 20
pages into it and it's taking me forever to get hooked. A friend said
the first 50 pages are slow but it just takes off from there and is
great. There are lots of references to the first book, so read the
Alientist first. Yes, I would move the Alienist up on your list.

They just staged this in the Forbidden City in Beijing. I heard it was
spectacular.
Thanks! I realised that I could have gone on for ages so I cut it short.
But I forgot one important thing - is anyone else in here a Star Wars
freak? I can recite all three movies word for word - I love them! Once I
was playing a trivia quiz game with a bunch of foreign correspondents
and one of the categories was star wars. I'm usually very laid back and
let others sort out disagreements, but not on this topic. I jumped up,
grabbed the answer sheet, and refused to budge on some answers. (Duh!
Everyone knows that Darth Vader is Luke's father, but what is his REAL
name?) <CE> so do you think Leo likes Star Wars?
<snip about art>
I wish I knew more about art. I like Matisse and impressionists, and
also Chinese caligraphy. Diedre, I had to laugh at your modern art bit -
there is a painting in the Philadelphia Museum of Art called "Tundra"
which is white paint on a white canvas. That's it. !!!!!
> Another hobby is bowling.
I love bowling! DH is very good - he gets over 200 almost every game and
once got 280. I usually make it to 100, but not much more. When I went
bowling for the first time as a brownie, I got 32!

You should insure it. I've seen MM rookie cards going for hundreds of
dollars on e-bay.

Hi Jennifer! Here's another Star Wars Fan :-)!!!!!!!
Unfortunately I can't recite the whole movies, but for sure some parts. Great
movies, milestones for all following movie productions.
Have You seen the trilogy when it now was reproduced with new tones and more
film material? Interesting.
<CE> What about Leo as Darth Vader? In the new episodes George Lukas is
filming, wouldn't that be a perfect role? Darth Vader was a good guy in the
beginning and his development until he's becoming a bad guy, would be a quite
interesting role on my opinion.
(I know that I don't have to tell you, Jennifer, what is all about DV.)

I am also more with modern art than the old one. For me even a black dot on a white
canvas can make sense, but not generalized, it always depends on the whole "thing".

I love reading biographies as well. That fits to my other "hobby": *people* (Going out
and meeting friends or new people is my most favourite "hobby"). Biographies are so
interesting and one can learn much by reading others history. Regarding Rimbaud: his
writing is absolutely awesome. - BBforLeo - try to get a "two language version" of his
work. Than you can read the French texts without having to know the exact meaning of
every word but you will get the "spirit and sound" of the language. It's exciting.
BBforLeo, are you writing poesie or novels?

Music? My passion! I already posted so often my favourite Bands and kind of music. For
not beeing annoying I won't do that again <g>. (Only one statement: at the moment I am
listening a lot to Depeche Mode, as I will see them in concert soon :))

You're rigth, Medieval stuff is cool. I mean, "cool" is somehow the right expression.
But please don't get a dirk or any other weapon.
"Sewing" fits in this newsgroup also, because some of the ladies in here know how to do
this quite well.
> I like knights and dragons and playing AD&D sumetimes. And I like animals

"Monsters" are not my cup of tea, but the knights and dragons fit in the Medieval
interest. I like animals as well, but for me the most fascinting favourites are the bit
scary ones like spiders, insects in general, reptiles and specially sharks. Well, here
we go with "monsters" <g>, but for me these aren't "monsters".
Elke
P.S. <CE> Leo likes reptiles as well, at least lizards and chameleons :-)
P.P.S. What's playing "AD&D"?

Yes, Jennifer, I'm a Star Wars fan! (god, we make it sound like some sort

all the important trivia stuff, but I loved the films, so I guess that

when i'm not working, i'm usually either taking photographs or digitally
destroying their integrity in photoshop. ;) i also draw and write,
although (aside from online) i haven't done much of those lately. i read
ayn rand, socio-political subjects, and graphics software books.
(exciting, eh?) i also have a soft spot for cheesy vampire novels. my
taste in music now leans more towards new wave, but i also love industrial
music, especially without vocals. as far as art and literature goes, i'm
still stuck in the romantic/preraphaelite era: byron, shelley, keats,
millais, burne-jones, and julia margaret cameron.

*grin*
I saw MITIM again yesterday. Oooooooooooh. I like Leo with longhair and I
really really liked him as Louis. I always like the more evil guys I guess. He
was so great. When he was all gagged in the boat you could see how mad and

Good boy 4me2no--you have excellent taste. Two of my brothers have Elway's
rookie card. They took the cards up to the Broncos training camp about 10
years ago and got him to autograph them.
<CE> Do you think Leo collects sports cards?
Laura.
I love people, and enjoy partying and just hanging out with my friends and
family. I like playing with my dog too. He's very cool.
I also love music and art--I am actually a fairly decent artist, but again, not
much time lately to indulge in it. When I do paint, it's usually in the
impressionist style. I'm really into color and texture, and focus on these in
my paintings. I've had some of my work displayed in a few galleries in Aspen
and Boulder, and have even sold a few. I guess if the Psychology career
doesn't work out, I have something to fall back on.
I also love to travel, although I haven't had the opportunity to do much of it.
After I graduate, I would love to be able to take a year and just travel all
over the world. If only I had the money, which I don't, so the chances of me
being able to do this are really slim. Oh well...

Ewan plays the young Obi Wan (Ben) Kenobi. The thing with Ewan is that he
is so versatile - he can play anyone. But I find he's best at characters
who are just a little bit wicked, 'cos he has this smile... Ahem! I'd
reccomend "Shallow Grave", "Trainspotting" or "The Pillow Book" if you've
not seen any Ewan films before. Grave is my favourite film of all time -
it's very funny and very dark. Good hair too. Trainspotting is sorta like
Pulp Fiction - you have to see it at least once in your life, it's a film
landmark. The accents are a little hard to understand sometimes, and it's
not a film for the squeamish, but it's *excellent*. "The Pillow Book" is
the most visually beautiful, rich film I have *ever* seen. It's set in
China, and it's the tale of a young girl who is a calligrapher, and her
quest to write a Pillow Book, like Sei Shonagon. She does this by writing
her beautiful calligraphy on people - Ewan plays Jerome - a translator who
becomes her Lover and in turn her "paper". There is quite a lot of nudity,
and I know it's a cliche, but it's really artistic, and the film is very
watchable. HEY EVERYONE - GO RENT THIS MOVIE!!
Okay, I'm done!
thanks

Yeah, "Velvet Goldmine" which centres around the life of a glam rock star,
Jonathon Rhys-Meyers, Toni Colette (Muriel from Muriel's Wedding) Eddie
Izzard star in it. It's loosely based around the lives of David Bowie, Iggy
Pop and Lour Reed. S'posed to have a kicking soundtrack, with the divine
Brian Molko from Placebo making an appearance. Also "Rogue Trader", which
is a real life story about Nick Leeson, the trader who swindled loads of
money and brought Barings Bank down. Also starring Anna Friel (Beth from
Brookside).
Glad to help!
