Last night i was having a conversation with my mom where we were arguing
about cleaning up our house. In the midst of it my mom was telling me really
what she wanted was to be listened to, i started to tell her i -was-
listening, but... i really got, in that moment, that the way people are in
conversation is wanting to be expressed (know, acknowledged, understood, or
what have you). I was at a special evening last night where the forum leader
was talking about ~self expression~ is not getting something that's inside
of you out of yourself. It's making a statement of what you're to be, and
then being your word... doing things to express yourself in what you stand
for. In arguing with my mom... i got it --to my innermost being-- that we as
people aren't being our word when we argue (just look at lawyers ;). We
weren't being expressed in the commitment to improve our house, in that; so
i got up, told my mom to write me the info on what she needed help with at
what times, etc. and told her i'd do certian things around the house
(dishes, and talk my brothers and sister, etc). We talked about it a little
more and the conversation ended up being cool.
What's funny tho is... that day, when i got home from work (i work a
3am-8am shift) i declared to myself that that day i'd be effective in
fulfilling what i said i'd do.
Today i'm declaring that there's gonna be some excitement ;) So everyone,
have fun today
there's no better day to do it (=

perhaps your mother would be interested in attending the guest evening ;-0
Still, its good to know that the landmark teachings are keeping yet another
American household clean and tidy...... three cheers for the forum.. hip hip

Jim, I don't see that arguing and being our word are mutually exclusive.
I gotta agreed with Larry on this one. It greatly depends on
what is driving the arguing, what's underneath it. But that'd
get you into that grey area you don't like. Easier to just think
all arguing/disagreement is bad, rather than discern what any
particular arguement is about, and decide out of that.

Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
I hear that, Larry. It doesn't necissarily have to do with my word or my
commitments; that was a little bland communicaton on my part.
What i got was more... argument isn't a genuine communication. While, it
would depend on whatever my word is as far as "keeping" it, or fulfilling it
in argument... i was going on -being true to myself, and in my word to
myself-. Like argument does nothing to facilitate the function i'm pursuing
in a conversation.
Arguments can be enjoyable, but i still would rather not do it. Like eating
ice cream... it's good, but it's not something i want in my body. I still
eat it sometimes, it's not bad, and i don't even regret it; but it's still
an action that i'm not being true to myself while i'm doing.
Some people it may not apply to,
but i've never met one (Besides a lawyer) who's goal is to do that.
Like that commercial, have you seen that one? with the little kids saying
stuff like "when i grow up i wanna be a brown noser," "when i grow up i
wanna be stuck in a dead end job?"
That's all i'm saying. People aren't crazy about arguing and in arguing
(which i found i had been spending about 90% of my time in conversation
doing) we're not being who we as people "really are."

LOL. I think the house is still dirty, but at least he got his mom to
write up a list of things she wanted done. (Hard of hearing, Jim?)
And don't forget about that great conversation they had.
In my experience, Landmarkians are big on talking about stuff they're
going to do but not so good at actually doing it.

i think it would be interesting to do a follow up on this in the

Yes. That's the Housecleaning Information Form (HIF).

it's funny tho how i sit around and criticize people for not doing what they

something alot of the time.
It's unfortunate most of the people who know how to do "things" or how
people should do the things they say they will aren't out there doing
"things".

Well, considering that i, as i kid always wanted to be excellent in
everything i do (like, seen as the most awesome person, and help people), a
"good" genuine person, and in profession, a writer.... And i wasn't geting
there who i was being at the time, the commercial struck me as significant
to the way people live their lives (and i had been living mine). I didn't go
change everything after the commercial; i just thought people were all even
more of idiots.
So once again i'll say, i'm not talking about or defending LEC. In my
life... there are places i'm going, and i don't get there by arguing. It's
an abiding point.
I'm not on the path to being an ILFL and transforming your life. I'm on the
path to being what i've wanted to since i was a small, and standing for what
i want to generate in the world.

'Course we had the advantage of not having to put it off for a week

Sounds like you and your Mum are doing pretty normal everyday sort of
parent/teenage stuff with pretty normal everyday sort of outcomes to

And my guess is both our families have a way to go yet - a few more
'rows', a few more understandings, a few more realizations - I think
its called growing up:-)

Seems like your still trying to justify the position that arguing is
~bad and wrong~.
Argueing is argueing, sometimes its a cover to hide the real issue,
but it can be genuine, authentic, useful, intimate, and just about
any other ~way of being~ that exists.

Perhaps in the way that you personally experience "arguement"
You do know that a big part of genuine communication is
communicating the feelings and the personal issues?
That which you are unwilling to communicate will run you.

You've laughed, my job here is done <giggle>
You like the "good student" answer?? I'm very good at
those.
Got me through school. I was always the quiet one in the
corner doing my own thing (origami got me through several
grades). When I was married my husband had me take a test
they used at the high school he taught at. Looked at learning
styles, and other aspects of personality that seem to be good
predictors of who will be dropping out. I'm in the 95% of these
kids (or something obnoxious like that) drop out group. Very
random in my learning style. They did say that the few who
figure out how to "do the school thang" tend to do very well,
even if they do things a bit unconventionally. My trick is learning
the good student answers. You drop a few of those, and the
teacher leaves you alone... they think your actually paying
attention. That and being able to guess at multiple choice
questions really really well. I usually answer them by asking
myself which of the 4 answers seems to fit the way I think the
world works.... Most of the time I can answer something multiple
choice by some sort of deductive reasoning without ever actually
knowing the answer... it's very wierd.
Like a reality check. Ask Mom 'well did he really help out? Or did he just
talk a lot about the awesome possibility of helping out and what a
difference he saw that it could make.
I love the new converts. They are so cute.... Quick drop to the floor and

Isn't that just how it is rather than unfortunate? Your use of the term
'unfortunate' implies making someone bad and wrong and imposing a value
judgement, dare I suggest even being righteous. That's what I got from your
communication anyway. That's not standing in the possibility of another
human beings magnificence now is it, nor does it seem were you looking
genourously from what's empowering and what's enabling.. now I know that's
not who you are.... and does not correlate with the future you have invented
for yourself now does it??......
Your homework is to get complete with three people, bring in two enrolments
and schedule 3 additional assisting agreements between now and next weekend.
And I want you do this standing fully inside your commitment and the
possibility that you are standing for and be prepared to share next week. I
understand that you will have to take time off work to do this but if you
want me to seriously relate to you as your possibility then you will take
the actions that will clearly demonstrate your commitment. Make sure you
call your coach each day at 5:25 am and report when you have completed your
assignment. I have to say that this episode makes it difficult for me to
authentically relate to you as that which you say you are but I remain
absolutely committed to have you be the manifestation, not just the
vocalisation, of the future you have declared yourself to be; fully,
unabashededly and as a bold statement of self expression created from
nothing, moment by moment.
Now repeat your homework assignment back to me so I can be clear you got it.

Jim, do you do your 3am to 8am job while you're at forum? As well as

Let us know how the cleaning ~agreement~ works out in your house - in

If theres something that i'm really ---committed to--- then i'm committed!

I was talking about *my* words.
I know you *got* something from what I said. I thought that
what tickled Linda was what I said, along with your response
to it.
One of the reasons I gave the "good student of transformation"
response to what you said, was I thought that those words
might just mean something to you, and I guessed right.
Well - its a thought:-) But maybe they would just be doing more forum
instead of more helping.
On the other hand if they were at forum all weekend, the house wouldn't
be getting as messy eh?
Method in your madness Larry? :-)
Jen.
P.S. They're great at the moment - but knowing kids.... well....I
could kind of use it as an incentive I guess like - "you kids better
be careful, if you don't do your chores you'll have to do....FORUM".
That should keep them motivated:-)
J.
P.P.S. Are you in Ireland at the moment? Is it nice?

I'm sorry to hear you are committed. What facility did you end up in and
are you working on the issues? Are they feeding you nicely? -pam
Jim, do you know that cleaning bathrooms COMPLETELY -- including the
complete absense of pubic hair -- was once a part of two WE&A courses? And
that the bathrooms were inspected each and every day during the course, and
that the inspection included pubic hair status?
Do you also know that when forum leaders get out of line (at least this was
the case in the past) that they get assigned to clean the bathrooms in
headquarters?

yeah, i hear that (=
I'm making that commitment tho, to have my house clean and doing it.

It --is-- grodie to me ;)
and the little one wants to clean up the house and agreed to do the
bathroom. He wasn't forced into it. Two bathrooms are small and take less
time than the other parts of the house, so he choose those over something
that'd take more time.
j2
who knows... he might end up wanting to switch out.

nope, i didn't know that.
I'm not asserting there's anything wrong with grodie. I'd be willing to
clean up grodie with no hesitation. But what's grodie is still grodie.

The little one? is 12? kootchie kootchie koo.
Golly gee Jim, where I come from, 12 is old enough to father a baby,
drive a tractor and work.
BTW, Is that your older sister's son?
Pam, I let my 5 year old clean the bathroom, Vinegar and water in a
squirt bottle, with blue food coloring, ( you didn't think we were
going to buy $$Windex$$ did ya?)
and a couple of paper towels...
It's a start. :-)

Jim..... I want you to "listen" to this closely.
My GOOD STUDENT comment had to do with what I said.
NOT WHAT YOU SAID.
I NEVER said YOU were giving GOOD STUDENT answers.
It was MY words that I labeled like that.
