Well...I guess this is it. The series that was powerful enough to make us want
to participate in an internet newsgroup to talk about it seems to be over.
Before I leave the newsgroup, I thought I'd share my perspectives on LFN.

First, I don't understand why so many people are bashing the final end game.
LFN's weekly episodes RARELY ended on a happy note. Sure, there were plenty
"sigh of relief" notes, there were LOTS of dark, sad notes, but very few
"happy" notes. I think what threw most of us was that the character that we
all BELIEVED Nikita to be came to an end with a helluva exclamation point in
the last five minutes of FLYF. It shakes your foundation a bit. BUT...then
again...this is LFN we're talking about.

Second, even tho Nikita basically betrayed her friendships...most notably
Micheal...I still believe that there was *something* else there. Even when her
most cruel dismissal of Micheal came at the end, she couldn't look him in the
eye....AND...she did save his life. Clearly, if she did nothing, Center would
have cancelled him just on his blatent disregard of the Section rulebook when
it came to Nikita. She did the only thing she could to save his life. It's an
unhappy ending to a relationship that we all thought was real. But it could
have been worse.

Madeline pulling the ole "take a hit of cyanide" routine seemed a bit premature
for her. I would have thought that a strategic mind such as hers would at
least want to hear "the deal" that Jones and Nikita were about to propose.

The Operations story line was the most appropriate I thought. That whole
exchange between Ops and Jones regarding Jason basically setup the tone of
Jones/Ops relationship from here on out: No more screwups or you're dead.

The Walter scenario really tugs at your heartstrings...but I think by her
sending him to Farm...again, it saves him from what COULD have happened to him
for breaking the rules. Now, he can teach younger ops and not take a bullet.
Overall...not a bad position, albeit boring.

As for the continuity issues. Yep...seems clear to me that the writers had no
intention of going in this direction back in season 1, 2, 3 and the first 3/4
of 4. This was the best shocker they could pull out of their hat to end the
season if not the series. Given what they had to work with, I think they did a
decent job. Could it have been better? Yup. Could it have been
worse...yeah...they could have said "to hell with it...we just lost our
jobs...let's just let it end on a regular ep story." How depressing would THAT
have been?

In the end, I'm glad I discovered the show. It gave me some sense of escape on
a Sunday night. it made you think. The actors were VERY good. The scoring,
sets and for the most part, the stories were all compelling enough to make each
of us participate in this NG. So here is the end of my farewell to LFN.
Thanks...and best wishes to the cast, crew and fans of LFN!

Erm. No. We get five more episodes. (At least.....says the Pollyanna.)

>Before I leave the newsgroup, I thought I'd share my perspectives on LFN.

Thank you!
Don't leave!
Post again!

>First, I don't understand why so many people are bashing the final end game.
>LFN's weekly episodes RARELY ended on a happy note.

I don't either. The minute I read this sentence, I knew I would enjoy your
post.

>I think what threw most of us was that the character that we
>all BELIEVED Nikita to be came to an end with a helluva exclamation point in
>the last five minutes of FLYF

*IF* you believe her. I, for one, do not and I don't think Michael does,
either.

>It shakes your foundation a bit. BUT...then
>again...this is LFN we're talking about.

Damn straight!

>I still believe that there was *something* else there. Even when her
>most cruel dismissal of Micheal came at the end, she couldn't look him in the

Exactly why I don't understand why people are harping on the last five minutes.
She's demonstrated her love for him over and over. Good God, go review the
glass cell scene when Madeline makes them choose between eachother.

>Madeline pulling the ole "take a hit of cyanide" routine seemed a bit
>premature
>for her.

YESYESYES. Way too premature for her. I didn't find that credible at all.
That Madeline would commit suicide rather than be judged by the Ad Hoc Bimbo I
believe...but not unless the stakes were much higher.

>I would have thought that a strategic mind such as hers would at
>least want to hear "the deal" that Jones and Nikita were about to propose.
>

Yup. She knows how valuable she is to Section......

>Jones/Ops relationship from here on out: No more screwups or you're dead.
>

Absolutely. Plus, I have my own ideas regarding Mr. Jones.

> Now, he can teach younger ops and not take a bullet.
>Overall...not a bad position, albeit boring.

Agreed. I did like that.

>Could it have been
>worse...yeah...they could have said "to hell with it...we just lost our

>THAT
>have been?

Great point!!! ;)
Much as this old HR heart would have loved it to end on them sailing into the
sunset.......I'm glad it ended the way it did.

If she's lying.....well, Michael is free and able to return to Section and set
things right.
If she's telling the truth? Michael, with one very small action, cut....not
only himself.....but her to the very core.

> it made you think.

YOU BETCHA.

>The actors were VERY good.

;)

>So here is the end of my farewell to LFN.

Consider coming back.....
LFN is!

Hey Ed,

We get 8 more episodes next year. We'll have more episodes to nitpick. I
hope to see you then.

BUT...then

I had no problems with Nikita's 'surprise' since I thought the character was
getting pretty dull. I DID have problems with continuity and credibility;
i.e. I don't believe for a minute that having Mick be the boss was the plan
all along.

I think she did what she had to for his survival.

Nah, she was all about power and not having a 'bimbo' telling her what to
do. I can relate.
