Feb. 10, B.B. King''s, NYC (or is it B.B. KinKs?)
<http://www.bbkingblues.com/schedule/index.shtml> In addition to
general admission tickets for $30, there are "VIP booths" available
for $50 per ticket. These VIP booths are not the closest seats to the
stage. They are arranged in various locations around the perimeter of
the orchestra seating area. You can see where the booths are when you
place your order on their website.
Feb. 12, The Bull Run, Shirley, MA
<http://tickets.bullrunrestaurant.com/> I've been to this venue and it
is very nice. The kind of place that has white tablecloths on the
tables. The sound is good and the staff are great, and they really
treat the musicians well. Tables seat eight so you wind up sitting
with strangers (but we Kinks fans don't stay strangers too long!).
When you order tickets you can reserve the table you want but not the
exact seat at the table. I'd recommend getting your tickets soon
because the seats way in the back don't get the best view. By the way,
this venue is In the Middle of Nowhere ... so much so that you drive
over an authentic covered bridge to get to the parking lot.
Feb. 13, Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT
<http://www.mohegansun.com> I've seen Dave there on a previous tour.
That's the place with the weird animatronic wolves outside the venue
(which is inside the casino). It is apparently going to be free and
general admission seating.

This website
http://www.ravingdavefans.com/
has a good summary of what has been scheduled. I have corresponded
with Jonathan Lea (of Dave's band) who says they are also hoping to
schedule a date in Philadelphia and two other west coast dates.
I also would like to hear songs from 'Fractured Mindz.' There's no way
to tell at this point if Dave's shows will follow a pattern like his
previous solo shows during the years 1997-2004. During this time he
performed many Kinks songs (including songs with Ray's name on them as
the writer) but he also featured many songs from 'Bug' while that was
the new album. So ... he might or might not feature 'Fractured Mindz'
songs.
The new "product" that is being promoted is actually not an album at
all; it is the DVD about his spiritual journey called 'Mystical
Journey.' There *are* one or two new songs on that DVD which could be
included in a live show. Of course, I've only seen the preliminary
website-only release of the DVD; the final version may have more music
on it.
The fact that he has assembled a band with the same musicians as
before (Jim Laspesa, Dave Nolte, and Jonathan Lea) implies that this
will be (at least primarily) a musical performance.
Interestingly enough, during the 1997-2004 years Dave never performed
any of the songs Ron mentions above. He *might* have done "Party Line"
once or twice (I don't have EVERY set list from EVERY show) but never
did any of the others. He did do quite a few lesser known songs,
however.
There might be a subset of fans who would enjoy that, but I suspect
it's a relatively small number of people.
And ... I also suspect Dave is smart enough to realize that. I think
he realizes people will come to his shows to hear rock 'n' roll. I
also suspect that he wants to perform music the way he always has.
My guess is that there will be SOME content relating to the DVD, but
that the main part of the show will be music. The fact that Jim,
Jonathan and David are involved supports that guess.
This mystery about the kontent of the show is what has me thinking
about going to the west coast shows, too, since they will be happening
before the east coast dates.
Well, neither do I, but you've heard of credit cards, haven't you? :-)
My only regret as a Dave fan is that I didn't get on a plane to go to
Dave's first ever solo show, at Luna Park, in April 1997.
I *did* get on a plane to go to MY first Dave solo show ... Cleveland,
Nov. 1997. And that was followed by a LOT of miles in the car. I saw
Dave solo 54 times (more than anyone else other than Rafaela, Frank
Reda, and Lee Arthur Wilkerson ... and yeah, I guess I'm bragging ...
why not ... Ron and I are the only people reading this newsgroup
anymore, right?).
I used to read a dozen different newsgroups, but I'm now down to 2. The
young'uns have all migrated to either blogs (where I've gone),
MySpace/Facebook type sites, or Twitter.
Maybe ray can write a song lamenting the loss of newsgroups :-)
I don't think Frank Lima *ever* was a presence on this newsgroup. We
used to have a really lively kommunity here, but I don't think Frank
was part of it. I could be wrong ... I don't spend my days paying
attention to which online site Frank is frequenting. <lol> He has
always been a prolific kontributor to the Kinks digest.
Some newsgroups that I read are still very active. The Tolkien
newsgroups. A wonderful English grammar newsgroup called
alt.possessive.its.has.no.apostrophe. There's even an active Harry
Potter newsgroup ... which you wouldn't expect, given the fact that
those horrible smiley-infested internet message boards were
establishing themselves around the time the Potter series became
popular.
I'm wondering if most music-discussion groups have dwindled. This one
and alt.music.zevon are verrrrry slow these days. (That one used to be
a lively place, too, back in the day.)
Joanne
(showing not so much my age in years but my online longevity)
This makes it less likely I'll be heading to the west coast. But I'll
wait and see what the third gig is going to be. (I was told by
Jonathan Lea that they are hoping to have three west coast shows.)

>Maybe a group of us should get together and attend the Anthology show in
>formal wear - just like the Kinks did for the Rock and Roll Hall of
>Fame. I haven't worn a tux in 15 years, it would be funny! (with a Kinks
>shirt underneath)
What an idea. I'll start scouring the thrift shops for an appropriate
evening gown now. :-)
