Wow. That's all I can say. I would like to be in the audience for
that!
Before Dave started his solo tours, the Kinks digest discussed what
songs he would play or we'd like to hear him play. People generally
speculated on him playing songs he'd written himself. No one really
expected him to play a lot of songs Ray had written. But then when
Dave started performing we all realized he was better at picking a set
list than we were. (LOL) And the excellence of his performances of
those Ray-written songs proved that he had every right to perform
them.
The Kinks at their best were a collaboration between Ray and Dave, and
without Dave's musical input (in addition to Ray's songwriting genius)
the songs would not have been as great as they were.
Obviously, YRGM is the classic example. It was a pleasant slow blues
when Ray wrote it. It was only when Dave got his hands on it that it
turned into the furious punch in the gut that changed rock 'n' roll
forever.
That having been said, I think Dave is also a songwriting genius
(clearly a less prolific one than his brother) and I do agree with
Ron that there were times he didn't play enough of his own songs.
At this point in time, ANY Dave solo show would be a dream Dave solo
show.
