Does anyone else have the Portrait CD that came out today? I went to the one record store here and got it. The man there knows me, ha. Anyway, I do like the new song called "Don't Be Kind" and the live versions of the other songs. They are from a San Francisco concert. I would've liked a CD wil all new songs, but I will take what I can get, ha. I told my hubby that if I was to choose favorite songs from the RCA era, these are most of the songs I would choose, especially On the Wings of a Dream and The Wings That Fly Us Home and Heart to Heart. It is cool here, today, so I can believe there might be snow in Aspen this year for the get together. Better be prepared. Peace.

Do you know what year the songs are from? Is there only one previously
unreleased song on the CD?

Hi,
yep only "Don't be kind" previously unreleased.
Sad that they put not more new stuff on it because the
title is brilliant. I would say by the quality of John's voice
and the music style taped in the time of Dreamland Express or
later?!
Anyway the song touched me deep inside...reminds me again how
much I miss him. Like also the other titles they voted and
the live version of the 70s titles...this becomes for sure
my fav sampler CD...
Best wishes

Does anyone know if the CD store in Aspen (Sam Goody I think) will have this
CD? I recall last year they didn't have Forever John until we suggested
they might get it in as lots of JD fans were about to arrive! I figured if
I can get it there it will save me the international shipping cost.

If you have to tell a retailer in Aspen to have Denver CD's ready during
memorial week, I would think this guy is a huge chain store prospect.

I just found the PORTRAIT CD on Best Buy's site for 25.99
At CDNOW and Amazon it's -- 26.99. I was listening to the Season suite from the CDNOW site, and
it sounds like the original recording from the Rky Mtn Album. Does anyone know if he EVER
re-recorded those songs ? Would love to hear those in his later years.....mature voice. Thanks ---

I will pick up a copy for you tonight and give it to you Saturday

service??

I finally found the Portrait CD today. I went to 4 stores yesterday and no one
had heard of it or had it in their computer except for Best Buy. Best Buy
showed there should be 2 copies in the store, but after serching for 20 minutes
neither I or the clerk could find them. Today I tried another Best Buy and
again did not see it with the other John Denver CD's. After asking a clerk who
knew she had seen it she double checked in the computer and discovered it had
been placed in the country music section. So I finally got it home and was
able to listen to it. I do love the new song "Don't be Kind". It doesn't say
what year it was recorded, but from the sound of his voice I would guess it was
more recent than the songs from "Forever John". It would be nice if someone
knew the year for sure. The live songs are great and I like the fact that
there are a lot of newer songs on the CD. However I really wish they would not
put "Sunshine on My Shoulders" on any more of his CD's. It's the one and only
John Denver song I am truly sick of. It has been played way too much over the
years and it seems to be on every collection they release.

To the best of my knowledge, he never re-recorded the Seasons Suite -
unfortunately.

I will look for the CD in Colorado before resorting to an on-line order -
International shipping is not cheap, and I sometimes get stung for UK tax
(17.5%) when the package arrives! Though some postman don't ask for the
money....this morning my "Wildlife Concert" DVD arrived, in a box with a big
sticker and lots of rubber stamps asking for money, and postie just handed
it over to my husband without a word!

Jan,

Thank you so much - I will be bringing the CD Walkman, with speakers, so
will be able to hear the new song without waiting to get home!

Are you going to the Windstar open house after the clean-up? I would like
to, but I'm sure I can get a ride back if you don't want to go there.

Christine,
I have your Portrait CD and it is already in my suitcase! :)
Great idea on the Walkman with speakers, mine only has the headphones.
I would like to go to the Windstar Open House, but it will depend on a
few things. Should know more as the day gets closer.
See ya soon!
Jan
