I'm a big Hendrix, but still don't know the answer to this one. I can't
find it anywhere.

Q. What does (slight return) mean, if anything?

Thanks

Based on pure logic, not any particular "source" information:

There are two versions of "Voodoo Chile" on Electric Ladyland. The first
one is the spacey, bluesy, long version (15:01) that's the fourth song on
the album. The last song on the album, at only 5:01, is Voodoo Chile
(Slight Return). IMHO, (Slight Return) is another way of saying, for
example, "Reprise - we're using the same melody and pretty much playing
the same tune, but with an altered arrangement"

Hope that helps. Corrections/additions welcom.

I checked some references: on my record club pressing CD the "slight
return" version *is* Voodoo ChilD, but on my British vinyl "naked women"
cover pressing, both songs are spelled Voodoo ChilE. Anybody have a
certifiable original American pressing, to see what *it* said??

My original US vinyl has Voodoo Chile and Voodoo Child (SR). (My
nudecover double CD also has 'Chile' for both)
In Jimi's own handwritten song list, as reproduced in the new reissue,
he spells the first one "Chile" and then it looks like he actually
*changed* the spelling of the last cut from "Chile" to "Child" right
there! However, in his notes for the "friends and passengers" credits
(written first), he lists Steve Winwood and Jack Cassidy for "Child"
(and that's how they printed it). So, even the original release
contradicts itself !
