1930*- THE INNER POWER OF HEALING with RACHEL NAOMI REMEN, M.D.
Dr. Remen delivers an outpouring of wisdom about healing and the
mysteries of life and death in this moving and eloquent interview. She
challenges us to "confront the unknown" because people recover from illness
for reasons that we don't understand. Remen always asks her patients what
they consider to be true about their illness; she has discovered that what
we believe influences our health far more than we know. Her insights from
over forty years as a physician, as well as her personal experience of
living with a terminal disease from an early age, will change the way you
think and your ability to cope with illness in yourself or your loved ones.
Our wounds are "badges of credibility," not of weakness, and Remen reminds
us that "it's not necessary to live an easy life to live a good life." Dr.
Remen is the medical director of the Commonweal Cancer Help Program and
author of Kitchen Table Wisdom: Stories That Heal (Riverhead Books, 1996).
Interview conducted by Mark
Walstrom. (Program #2596)

UNIVERSITY OF THE AIR
(60 minutes)

The University of the Air brings you two courses this quarter:
Weather, Wealth, and Wars with Professor Robert Reuschlein (Course #610)
and an encore presentation of Earth Mother Speaks with Lloyd Gilbert
(Course #625)
In course 610, we hear how global warming and cooling trends change
every generation and cause major natural events and human events that
repeat every other generation in a fifty-four year cycle. This cycle could
be human made, except for its precision over many centuries.
This course will first look at the natural cycle and how it
operates. Then the unique role military spending plays in stagnating
economic development will be examined.
Course 625, Earth Mother Speaks, is based on the Symposium Peace
and the Planet: Native Wisdom, Native Rights, and Mother Earth which
provided a voice to the world's indigenous peoples via live broadcasts on
RFPI.

that shows no sign of leveling off. UN corespondent Sally Swing Shelley
discusses the Human Development Index with Egyptian economist Moise Dorad.

years Habitat II UN conference and forward to Earth Summit II in June 1997.
