I've never said that I want to stop anyone that doesn't agree with me
from voting. In fact, I've even voted for politicians that had
different views on some issues. My main reason for voting for a
politician is if I think he/she is a straight shooter. The reason Stern
groupies scare me in the voter booth is the same reason I don't want
lunatics or terrorists voting. Also.....It's a scary thought that I

There IS a point to this/that statement.

Are you Jewish, or are you of Hebrew (Israeli) descent? There is a
difference.
You can't be a Christian and not believe in God. Therefore, how can
you be Jewish and not believe in God?
Maybe I'm confused here, but I was always taught that Judaism is a
religion and that you weren't Jewish unless you adhered to the Jewish
faith--much like you're not Christian unless you follow Christianity.

Actually, the word "Jew" has two meanings. It can mean that you are an
adherent to Judiasm, or that you are a member of a particular very

On the contrary, it is the only intelligent position. There is no
evidence for a god. To believe in one is tantamount to believing in the
Easter Bunny or gremlins.
The Dark Ages are the legacy of people who truly believed in a god and
acted on that belief. The West grew out of reason and science after
the works of the ancient *Greeks* were rediscovered. It is the ancient
Greeks who were the engine behind the success of the West. They are the
shining example in the history of mankind.

You should get a broader sweep of history. They had god with a
passion in the Dark Ages and the result was massive misery. It was
only after the rediscovery of the philosophy and science that the West
was able to begin removing the shackles of religion. The man to whom
we owe the greatest debt in this regard is Aristotle. There are many
books well worth reading that will educate you on this. One is "The
Beginnings of Western Science" by Lindberg, which gives you a good idea
of the influence of the Greeks, and is loaded with great and important
historical information.
Now, realize, there is more than one way to go wrong. Religion is just
*one* way to accept irrational views of the world. But, men can also
be extreme subjectivists who believe there is no objective reality.
These are the sort of people who put forth post modernism (feminism,
environmentalism, multiculturalism, etc.) and all of its evils, and they
are the sort who put forth things like Communism and Nazism (both forms
of collectivism, and both rejected Greek logic [i.e. real logic]).
These are the people who are the modern "intellectuals" and are
destroying our freedoms, and who have not learned from history
themselves. This is also the source of moral relativism, which follows
naturally from extreme subjectivism.
Contrast this with the Founding Fathers of the U.S. They were men of
reason, and passionately so. Thomas Jefferson made it clear when he
said "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and bring to her tribunal every
fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of god,
for if there be one he much more respect the homage of reason than
blindfolded fear." (I'm quoting from memory, so the wording likely
isn't exact). This country was born of two essential ingredients:
1> Reason and science.
2> Individual rights.
Reason and science are what separated the West from the rest of the
world, i.e. what made it superior to any other place. The US added to
this individual rights, which is what made it the best of the best. The
greatest country in the world. Rights were born of reason and science,
so John Locke (the father of rights in its fullest form, and the
philosophical father of this country), and Thomas Jefferson would tell
you.

On what grounds are you making these claims? I directly quoted Thomas
Jefferson. I know with certainty that Locke is the philosophical
founding father of this country. Read his "Second Treatise on Civil
Government", and you'll find a validation of individual rights. I also
know that Jefferson and Franklin, both, had a passion for science.
Jefferson wanted more than anything to be a scientist, but there wasn't
must chance of being on at that time. Franklin was a brilliant
scientist.
Look at the evidence. How did man discover the principles by which to
make the internal combustion engine work? The electric motor? The
television?
How were these things created and who created them? What process of
*thought* did they use? What did they have to know and how did they
come to know it?
The point I'm making is that science, the scientific method, is the
engine behind those creations.
