The "environmental line" is that such platforms are an "eyesore".
Some caller called in to say that he thought the real eyesore is
"watching the numbers spin when he buys gas."
I remember back in the late '80s for a while people were always
saying something else was "better than a sharp stick in the eye."

Except that, at this moment, the production of Hydrogen for use in
"Hydrogen powered" automobiles is far less cost effective than fuel
made from food, in other words an economic disaster, if not an
ecological one.

If that was extended globally the do it yourself movement would overtake
the big 3 automakers as a source of wheels. I think he made it himself.

If there wasn't such a massive energy cost in the manufacture of solar
power cells !

During all this I keep thinking of the far future. Say, if humans
want to exist a thousand or a million years from now. Then getting H
from H2O using solar power and burning it back to H2O looks real good.
