seen ads for it already. I do like the idea of a woman in the mix
(Kona instead of Kono), but I've also seen a clip of McGarrett saying
"Book 'em Danno", and it wasn't Jack Lord saying it, nor James
MacArthur hearing it! It didn't look or sound right at all. I'm not
sure any other actor will ever be able to say that line like Jack did.
It was his signature, after all. It's like someone else trying to sing
Sinatra or something--it's just not the same.
I'm withholding judgment on whether or not I'll like the series, of
course, and I'm tickled that I'll be able to see beautiful Hawaii
every week again (all those great location shots on the original made
me fall in love with it, as they did for all of us, I'm sure), and I
like the group they've assembled for the cast (all great-looking,
lol!), so we'll see....

like every other cheesy attempt to cash in on past glory. Just shows
you how desperate the television industry is to retain its ever-
dwindling audience. They're even remaking The Rockford Files.
Naturally I predict the same fate for it no matter how well produced
it is, for even in Hollywood, brainfarts emit an odor all their own.

The Rockford files project has been dropped at least for now.
I remember Monte Markham as Perry Mason. Just didn't seem the same.

I saw a few clips of the new H50. Lots of car crashes. explosions and
insignificant faces.
In other words, it's no different than any other action show on TV
today, and we know how long they last.

I'll watch it at first to see but it doesn't sound too promising if
that is what it will be.

What does insignificant faces mean?
Like other remakes/reboots it will be geared to today's audience.
People will complain if it's too similar to the original.
People will complain if it's too different from the original.
Those people who remember the original.
Those people who are not necessarily the main target.
I will celebrate the new series by buying the original on DVD.
But I will watch the new one as well. I hope it does well.

You're right ... and that's precisely why it will fail like all the
others. True, it may click with a new generation of garden vegetables,
but I'll be surprised if this one lasts a full season before the
studio decides the expense to produce it just ain't worth it.

4 minutes long, and gives quite a bit of background on the characters.
The pilot seems to focus primarily on how the team met and got
together. In the opening, McGarrett is apparently in the Navy (which
the original was too) and is ferrying a bad guy somewhere. The bad
guy's brother lets McG know he has his (McG's) father and will kill
him if he doesn't release his brother...Well, you know how that works
out. In the original, however, McG's father died when he was just 12
years old. I know this is a new generation, but us oldy afficionados
remember the details!
Also, I noticed that even tho Kono is now a woman, her name is still
Kono, and not the feminine Kona. Interesting, I thought. And Danny is
not a local, tho he was on the original, and doesn't like beaches.
Anyway, they've totally made up new lives and backgrounds for the
characters, which I guess is okay since they're updating the series,
but...they're messing with a classic, and I just can't get my head
around it. Sigh...I dunno.

dissapointed with the "cliffhanger" approach this season (getting tired of
end-of-season cliffhangers in general), but all in all I think the dynamics
are very good.
