After reading HBP, I found it interesting to note that two wizards mentioned
(who are not that important to the story) have the first names of Everard
and Odo (Odo was mentioned during the drunken scene with Hagrid and
Slughorn). Also, the name of Proudfoot was also mentioned by McGonagall I
believe, but not in conjunction with Everard or Odo. Well, few people will
be aware of this, but anyone who has read Lord of the Rings will know that
two of the hobbits who lived in the Shire were Everard Proudfoot and Odo
Proudfoot. And not only that, but Longbottom was a village in the Shire,
where the tobacco *herb* was grown. Interesting that Neville Longbottom's
best subject is HERBology, isn't it? Is all this just sheer coincidence or
what? Are the names Odo, Everard and Proudfoot so common that it is not that
unlikely to find all three names in one novel?

By the way, HBP was the best of the series to date.

Well there's an Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - so maybe that's a
connection? [/ironic grin]

In article <dbdpcr$61s$1...@oheron.kent.ac.uk>,

Odo was also the name of a famous bishop.

The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

Odo and Everard do appear in the very first chapter!

She's got to be lying. Like her saying she always knew Scabbers would be an
Animagus wizard.
Why not mention the missing toe in PS/SS then Jo? Huh,huh? (smiles)

Everars also kept an assisted DD in OoTP on the night when Mr. Weasley
was attacked. I wondered at the time whether he might be an ancestor of
Snape (obviously a Prince ancestor, on the strength of this book) as
his surname, unlike those of the other Heads mentioned, has been
concealed from us. In any event, he may well be significant in Book 7.
