What in God's name is that?! Terribly sorry to the owner of that webpage, but
that is the most horrible page I've ever tried to use! Most web users don't
appreciate having to chase links across the page or trying to read moving text.
And what the dickens does Queen Elizabeth have to do with Harry Potter?
Couldn't find anything about it on that wretched website. (Course, I was
getting motion sickness and gave up relatively quickly!)

I wanted to see how he got all that stuff to scroll across the screen, and I
think I found the problem.

That's what you call WebTV Pagebuilder! A real blast from the past for
me. There was one dude over in rmaa-d who tried to make an Ani sound
clips page with WebTV Pagebuilder. *That* was a classic.

The page made me laugh so hard that my cat ran out of the room
terrified. I have *never* *ever* seen someone try and make a webpage
with scrolling links. After the shock wore off, I started to shout at
my monitor, "Hey! Get back here! I want to go to Links! No! Don't go!"

She's really Voldemort in disguise. Didn't you read your advance copy
of Book 5? 8-)

Yes dear, I'm sure they are. Now you go bounce off your padded walls
some more now.

Gee, no. Remember, I work at a movie theatre. I only got the advance
screening of the *movie* of Book 5, not the book itself. They must have left
that part out! Darn movies! :-P

Just what I wanted to say Old One, only you put it much more nicely than I
was about to.

Use AIM. You'll see the equivalent in their news ticker.

No, no, that's the _movie_. The British Royal Household doesn't
read all the _books_ in Britain before they're published. The Royal
Household reads all the _theatre and movie scripts_ in Britain
before they're published, or shown.

(All right, it used to. But not now. And I don't think it really
ever did movies.)
To be fair, if anyone gets an advance copy, the Queen probably will,
if she wants one. But http://www.royal.gov.uk/ doesn't seem to have
any references at all to Harry Potter or J. K. Rowling, or
Harry Potter Webring links. Which is odd, because Her Majesty often
posts in this newsgroup...what about it, ma'am? Update your web site?
JKR was late going to see the Queen, too, and the Queen was out when
JKR actually got there. Instead, and this is almost absolutely true,
the Queen came to see her.

Also, the Prince of Wales is very keen to see if the film is as good as the
books. The boarding school that he went to himself was rather different...
(And I've just remembered that it was he who hinted to Sir Harry Secombe,
who was taking the mickey, that it's very cold in the Tower of London.
So I hope his mother doesn't clype.)

I thought that was pretty queer HTML...
Presumably it doesn't cover the page with sodden canvas, wooden poles
eight inches thick, and the smell of muddy grass and candy-floss - so
what effect *does* it have? 'Enquiring Minds Wish To Know'!

Enquiring Minds are (more or less) happy to tell you:
We viewed this page in IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.76. The page was static in
Netscape. In IE everything (yes EVERYTHING) below the picture of the
wolf howling in front of (presumably a crystal ball) moves at a moderate
speed, appearing at the right and exiting stage left, even. Therefore
you have to chase the links to click on any of them (not a hard task,
but not very entertaining either).
We fail to see the point of this effect and recommend the author review
his coding (which we are in no way qualified to analyze ourselves) and
at least have his moving text stop at an appropriate location on the
page.

A moon (I think) because it is the page of Remus Lupin.

Yes, it is a moon, but the illustration on this page is true to the
original book in making it look more like a crystal ball (the bogart
version of the moon looked like a crystal ball to those who saw it,
excepting for canny Hermione who fig'red it out). So we are taking that
perspective, but you may take yours with equal (or probably greater)
justification.
I guess that if Remus Lupin says he comes from Newport, then
he ought to know. I somehow figured Wolverhampton...
