It's been a mixed bag for the old fan group... we've lost so many
people that the trolls seem to be beginning to outnumber us! :)
Still, as long as a few of us keep the faith and believe in the magic
perhaps we can extend the group and perhaps grow the group once more
into the force it once was?? :D
Hey... how about discussing other forms of 'magic' found in other
books and the way the authors interpret them compared with JKR's
vision??
After all, JKR was developing her story with the underlying tradition
of the mythology of 'western European magical themes... why don't we
just begin to extend them and compare with those of other areas?? Or
just within the genre?
We could ask ourselves what happened to the brownies and other 'fairy
folk' that other authors have included in their writing?
Anyway... I started writing to wish all of us a Happy Christmas and
good New Year. How about us all just making a pledge to be here and
maintain the rage eh??
Take care... you never know... any one of us could be a 'late bloomer'
and Hagrid could yet come to visit! )

Merry Christmas to you, too.
I too check back here on a regular basis, and hope that things pick up
again.
That would be my wish for 2010!

See recent posts on "altering the charter" slightly to an "alt.fan.jkr" sort of thing.
(ie. the "We're Losing Ground Rapidly" thread). I don't think it's necessary actually
to change the NG name, just as long as we all vote on the altering we want to do,
and get Petrea Mitchel to adjust the FAQ accordingly.
If you like, I'll manage the nominating voting procedure. I'll set up an e-mail
address for us to use for ballots and tally them. I'll post the results here and ask
Petrea to update the FAQ. Or I'll even do that if she is no longer with us here.
The change simply would be to expand the charter of alt.fan.harry-potter to include
all present/future works of Joanne Kathleen Rowling (JKR) and/or all films/characters
etc. based on her works as being "on topic" for this NG. Please reply here with any
suggestions for changing the language above or any other alterations. As stated
previsously, it's probably not necessary to alter the NG name and a huge hassle.
I think we should always remember what brought us here together in the first place
anyway.
So if I don't hear other comments by, say, 15-Jan, I'll post the voting ballot and the
special e-mail address for you to use to cast those ballots.

You mentioned something like this previously and without wishing to
seem rude it didn't make much sense even then! :)
This group is in the 'alt' hierarchy so it doesn't have a 'charter'
that anyone has to adhere to begin with. If it was in one of the 'Big
8' then yes I'd agree we might need to vote etc.... but because of
what it is and where it is all we need do is simply post whatever it
is we want to post and that really *is* all!
Many defunct groups find themselves being used by new groups for
purposes other than the original... alt.sleazy-weasel being just one
(tho that might have died out again by now).
For 'proof' just look around and see how many troll posts are arriving
and the numbers of cross-posted crap we keep seeing!

No need... we simply just get on with it. Hopefully Petrea will still
continue her sterling job keeping the FAQ going... it would just need
amending as and when the need arose.

Bearing in mind the nebulous nature of newsgroup patrons I doubt you'd
get many responses but feel free to try. :)

And especially healthy! :)

All the above is perfectly fine with me.... I think it was suggested in those
previous threads by others, that some sort of voting should take place over what
we would be doing and how. I didn't suggest that. But whatever it is we do, Petrea
should at least keep record of it in case we are asked at some point, if only for
"historical event" reasons.

Nah, I think you've convinced me sufficiently, now. :) We leave things as they are,
and see how it goes. Besides.... I was thinking yesterday.... if the objective is, in
fact, to attract more members and to grow by expanding the function of the group
as described above, then it would be best to start a new NG as "alt.fan.jkr" and
advertise as such.
