I have sadly given up on alt.fan.goons as it has become infested with people
going on about paedophiles, sexual perversions and other drivel. After
discussion with several like minded people here, I have started a Friends of
the Goon Show group on something called Big Tent.

So I'm asking all the real Goons fans here to come and join us.If you go to
https://www.bigtent.com/ and register - it's all free and the htpps tells
you it's secure. If you let me know your email address - email me
privately, it's easy to work out - I'll send you an invite and then we can
continue all the things we used to do on alt.fan.goons before THEY muscled
their way in.

Come on in, the water's lovely! Mad Dan, Judith, Ophelia and hopefully
Martin are all there already.

This is what it says on the front page of "Friends of the Goon Show"
Calling all folks!

This group is for people who want to talk about the Goons, talk about people
involved with the Goons, or talk like the Goons. A good sense of humour is
obligatory, a sense of good manners preferable and good common sense is
banned.
I hope people come here, have a good laugh, maybe learn something or ask
something about the Goons and leave with their heads held high and their
feet held higher.

Phrases such "Ying tong iddle I po", "Needle nardle noo", "You silly twisted
boy", "Yackaboo" and "He's fallen in the water are permitted providing the
writer is standing to attention clutching an OBE. Failure to do so will be
punished by being hit with a sock full of custard.

There was / is a mailing list called "[the-goons]" that was set up
a couple of years ago for exactly these escape purposes. It had
a lot of posts for a while but then seems to have fallen somewhat
out of favour, perhaps because the worst of the drivel moved away
from afg for a while.

Should we use "big tent" or "the-goons" or both or neither?

I have filters set up to keep most of the drivel out of my afg,
so while I'm aware of the drivel I see only a fraction of it,
and can easily 'plonk' new sources of drivel. So for me afg
still appears to have a high goon to drivel ratio.

I'm aware that perhaps for people without newsgrope filters
the signal to noise ratio for afg might be horrific.

Thought?

Eggzackerly - by killing all crossposts my newsgroup intake is down by
2/3 and now include almost no twits - wunnerfull !

I can't be bothered with a separate web forum. I spend too much time on
the PC as it is.

Great if you can. I can't and I suspect I am not alone. It is noticable that
there is virtually no activity here, partly, I suspect, because a number of
us have no desire to wade through the sick, the obscene and the swearing any
more. That is why the decision was made to up sticks and start again
somewhere else these people can't access. I would like it if they just
didn't come here any more. As that appears very unlikely - they have been
around for two years now - the sensible alternative is move ourselves.

We would love it if all the Goon Show lovers here came and joined us even if
they decide against staying. I just want to breathe some clean air when I
read my posts

Yers. Quite agree. They were only invented to wean people away from
newsgroups so that the Usenet could be shut down because the alleged music
industry and *other* commercial interests don't like it.

I have managed to dump most of the idiots into my killfile and I keep
reporting anyone that gets through to the abuse of their provider. Seems to
have worked pretty good for the moronic "Bob & Carole".
Alt fan Goons works for me, although I have also registered with the Big
Tent (coward!).

Regards,

Herman
