I was surprised to see on Turner Classic Movies, which I can get at my
sister's house, an English comedy about people raising alligators. To
my great pleasure the movie included the song, Crocodile Crawl, which
I had previously only heard sung by Ray Ellington on a Goon Show. It
is a terrible lyric, although the bridge is good, set to a very good
tune in the swing style of the time. The movie was a bore, on the
whole, but it was nice to hear the song. Ellington's version is much
better.

There is something wrong, wrong about a song called Crocodile Crawl in a
movie about alligators.

What was the name of the movie?

Jude the Lizard Queen

Working is soul-crushing. I can't believe adults live like this.

An Alligator Named Daisy is the title of the film. I only saw a
portion in the middle with people promenading about a garden party
with their Alligators on carriages, which I thought was a funny scene
but it appears not to be widely appreciated. Deprecating reviews can
be found by searching the name of the film. The film was from 1955 so
apparently was in circulation in the late fifties. I had never given
any thought to where such a song came from, just figuring it was a
novelty tune someone made up, like Muskrat Love or How Much is that
Doggy in the Window.
