So what's the deal with Kevin Duane?

Animal Magnetism and all that, Kevin Duane accepted payment Jan 9th,
and he tells me that he's out of one of the Animal Magnetism discs,
but can send me a CD-R copy. "Fine, go with it."
My order arrives and that disc isn't there and I'm short others as
well.
I mail the dude *weekly* for a while and got no responses. I phone him
up and "Oh, mail's not getting through. WHOOPS! It all came through at
once. Yes, here it is. I'll get those out to you."
No dice. I remind him again and I'm told he's got to "light a fire"
under someone. Nothing for a few weeks, so more reminders after that
and still no dice.
Being past 30 days on the Pay Pal payment I can't do much about
getting my cash back.
Do I write this off as a rip-off, or is this guy shaping the CDs by
hand, just reallllllllllly busy, or what?
Anyone else had experiences with Kevin Duane or digital-imp.com, good
or bad?

I can say that far more people have publicly stated having a mediochre
or worse experience with Kevin than people who have had positive
experiences.
I, myself, had a horrible experience just trying to get DI/KD to pay an
artist who worked for us the money he was owed. The excuse? KD didn't
have the address for the artist.
Fine, provided. Then it was mailed, he said. Not arrived. He promised to
look into it, mailed again. Never got, after a month of dealing with
him. He then accused myself and the artist of intentionally losing the
check so it made him look bad.
He's hot-tempered and his business plan sucks. Artists are supposed to
be paid for each image that is on a CD-ROM not too long after it's
published. These CD-ROMs include over 400 images, if memory serves me,
at about $10-$20 a picture paid to artists.
Most artists just give up on the payment and write it off, others wait
months or years to get their payments, after some reminding.
Your experience is no different than what I've seen happen with at least
one artist. If you didn't spend that much, chalk it up into a learning
experience in what Digital Impendium just may be.
If you're after quality artwork, purchase straight artist CDs at
conventions or from online stores. These are far more reliable ways to
get albums of artwork.

The deal is Kevin is unreliable. I've never done business with him that did
not involve my handing over a set amount of cash with one hand and
receiving the goods with the other. Any other way (based on other peoples
experience) seems to lead to bad feelings and so on. There's no ood reason
for this that I can see; perhaps it's glandular?
Unfortuanely he is not the only one like this in the fandom - or anyplace
else, to be sure.

He promised me money but I said I'd be happy enough to just get a few of the
finished cd's. But he couldn't even be bothered to send those.
The worst thing is he even messages me regularly, acting like nothing
happened.
This is just my personal experience though. I'm sure he's a nice person and
others may have had better luck.

expense), and THEN he would send Jerry his money. Simple scans and
thumbnails just would NOT do for him. He wanted it all in perfect
full-sized photocopies.
Yeah, as if there was never a thought that crossed my mind that what you
were going to do was to take the photocopies (that I paid for) and just
screw Jerry anyway, Kevin? It wasn't necessarily the scam that I was so
offended by. It was the idea that Kevin thought I would be SO GOD DAMN
FREAKING BRAIN DEAD not to smell this as being the scam it obviously was.
As far as I know, Kevin still calls up Jer and takes advantage of the
guy's sense of courtesy by trying to scam art off of him. Jer tries to
be polite, but Kevin just keeps at it and keeps at it and keeps at it.
I really do wish Kevin Duane would leave Jerry alone, the fucking
cockroach!*
And, there's the whole thing where Kevin was so desperate to have ANYone
near his table at a Critter Con Diego (he was shoved way in the back)
that he resorted to giving out free hot dogs. Yecck! Would you put
anything in your mouth that was handled by THAT "man"?

couple of local galleries showing art with a low brow theme.. here's a
