I'm thinking, wasn't there a 80s TV cartoon based around a talking
Rubik's cube?

Mind you, Pixar made a great little short using another toy, snow
globes.

God, I wanted to forget those shows!

I'm surprised someone remembered Stretch Armstrong at all, let alone
wanting to make a movie about it, what's next Sea Monkeys (and yes,
they made a TV show out of that).
