Frank told him, "Bob, I think you should record a Christmas album."
Which Bob did....17 years later.

I did not write that.

I think Harold Lepidus is a dick! I may be totally off base with what
vibe I got from his puny article & left a comment to that affect,
doubting I will get a response. When he wrote; "One can only imagine
how Zappa's production would have affected a song like this..." I got
the feeling that he was thinking like the average idiot that it would
have come out sounding like a constipated ape slamming pots & pans
together, with a 3 year old banging on a piano, & vocals being done by
cats in heat. I may have read wrong, but being an avid reader who
doesn't overlook context clues, especially the purported jabs taken to
Christians to set the tone, I'm left wanting to tell Mr. Lepidus to
"ram it, ram it, ram it, ram it up your poop shoot!" It's hard being
a hormonal broad sometimes, but I think my assessment is right & Mr.
Lepidus was trying his best to take a dump on Frank Zappa. Anyone
else get that vibe?

One wonders whether Lepidus ever heard an album produced by Zappa for
somebody else. FZ had a tendency to record other people very in-your-
face; that is, no special effects, no studio tricks, a little EQ and
bam, here it is. (Listen to RATJ "For Real" or GFR's "Good Singin',
Good Playin,'" where he said in an interview that this was the first
album where you "finally know what they sound like." Of course, the
album didn't sell and they broke up, but WTF...

Coincidence, or do you think there might have been a connection?

Their sales were in decline since 2-3 albums earlier, and I believe I
read once that they were about to break up before GSGP but stayed
together to make the album when they found out that FZ would produce
it.

I remember that the local "cool" FM station played GSGP a lot,
especially the tune "Crossfire"(?). They played the GFR Lp 'cuz FZ
HAD produced it which wuz unusual because they never had any of FZ's
music on their playlist anyway.
