Ok, FZ speaks to the audience of "...50 or 60..." but does anyone know how
many people actually attended these concerts? How big of a place is / was
this place anyway? Were the concerts sold out?

I thought "I Have Been In You" talk was pretty interesting...FZ is clearly
hostile towards women/girls and groupies (no surprise there) yet he / band
members never seemed to have any problems using the "services" provided by
these females (maybe the were males also for Ruth and other female members
of the rockin' teenage combo?)...and later on FZ said that groupies were
just normal people...

Not the first (nor the last) time FZ contradicts himself...he always seemed
to say / do whatever the audience / interviewer wasn't expecting. So it's
sometimes hard to know what he really actually thought on various subjects.

Also, for some reason FZ's attitude in 76-79 was
particulary..."pornographic"...almost in a teenage boyish way.

And in some cases that attitude can get pretty boring on songs from this
era. Yeah, saying "fuck" on stage is funny, and talking about tits and pussy
and stuff. We get it already. Let's move on.

Other than that, I love this album and can't wait for next gem from _The
Vault_.

Anyway.

FZ played at least five shows there in 1978 (the HO booklet mentions
four, but another show on January 24 was either not recorded or just
not used for this set), as well in four in 1977 and four in 1979.
Tickets must have been in demand or else his booking people wouldn't
have set him up with so many dates there, I think.

A few people who are still around in Zappa internet land were at those
shows (including Andrew Greenaway, aka The Idiot) - perhaps one of
them will weigh in.

Worse, actually its the

HMV HAMMERSMITH APOLLO

HMV haven't produced anything original for a long time. These days they
are purely a retailer and venue operator.

He was also there in 1982 (2 shows) and 1984 (2 shows).

I was there for a show in 1982 and again in 1984 - evening shows both
times.

Yes, I was there for two of the shows (27 Jan and 28 Feb - hey, I'm on
all of Disc One; kiss my 'groovy aura'. And that's Ben Watson dancing
to The Black Page #2, as 'Eric Dolphy'). The shows looked pretty much
sold out to me.

I don't remember seeing any empty seats.

Finally got my set - am loving it. I actually sighed at the song list
but I am loving the arrangements and performances. Lots of fun, glad
to add it to the collection.

Kudos to the oft-reviled ZFT for this release. Keep 'em coming!

Yeah, I read it was HMV now. That's just odd-sounding. Then again,
our local outdoor venue, formerly known as Great Woods, changed its
name to the Tweeter Center before recently becoming the Comcast
Center. I thought Great Woods was a rather nice name.

But anyway, I was quoting Eddie Izzard. Not surprised no one got it.
