Ethos Percussion Group performed at the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard
Pond Wednesday, Feb. 24. Eric Phinney, Trey Files, Yousif Sheronick and
David Shively made up the quartet and have delivered diverse musical
presentations since their beginning in 1989. The performance used a wide
assortment of instruments ranging from traditional snare and bass drums
to thundering sheets and segments of a wooden fence. The collection of
exotic and rare instruments on stage left the audience much to speculate
about in the moments before Ethos Percussion Group performed. The dimmed
recital hall lights contrasted the brightly illuminated stage. The
audience applauded as the group appeared member by member.

Ethos first performed Igors Boogie, an adaptation of Frank Zappas
1970s piece of the same name. The composition oscillated between
fast-paced, complex rhythms and slow, relaxing interludes.

Zappa originally composed classical music, Sheronick said. He never
intended to play rock music but decided to play what his audience wanted
to hear.

Ethos allowed Zappa fans to see his music in a different light by means
of this classical approach.
