First rock group to use an orchestra?

Greetings all,


I was listening to Fox Sports on the radio today, and they often use
60s pop music for bumper music.

They were using "Question" by the Moody Blues, and one sportscaster
mentioned that he was pretty sure that the Moody Blues were the first
rock group to use an orchestra in their music.

I'm not sure, but I think it was Frank on "Freak Out".

What say you?

For this conversation; How are you proposing we should interpret the
term "Rock Group"? You've already seen the miscief and confusion that
can happen if you don't (also) define "an orchestra".

That said; it seems in the early days of rock-n-roll in the post big
era of the early 1950's there we many "groups" that were accompanied
by orchestra.

Well then, The Drifters ["There Goes My Baby" (1959)] may be the first
group to record with strings.
