The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music program is preparing a
concert for those whose tastes fall in the realm of the eclectic.

Prof. Adam Gaines will lead the New Music Ensemble and Prof. Cheryl
Grosso will direct the Hand Drumming Ensemble in a concert that promises
to challenge and entertain. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday,
April 30, in the University Theatre in Theatre Hall.

The program will begin with the New Music Ensemble performing a pair of
compositions by Matthew Burtner, Siknik Unipkaaq and Prismic
Generations. Burtner is the Alaskan composer who was
artist-in-residence at UW-Green Bay in late March. He is a multi-media
composer whose work combines electroacoustic music and environmental
systems.

Next on the program is a Gaines original, What/So.

After that the ensemble will tackle two compositions by the late Frank
Zappa (yes, that Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa), Music for Electric
Violin and Low-Budget Symphony Orchestra, and The Idiot Bastard Son.

The New Music Ensemble will conclude its performance with an original
composition, Bottles and Cans.

Following an intermission, Prof. Grosso will direct the 14-member
UW-Green Bay Hand Drumming Ensemble in the performance of five of her
Rhythm Chants.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. They can be
purchased at the door, or in advance online at www.uwgb.edu/tickets/ or
by calling at (920) 465-2217 or 1-800-328-TKTS.
