I guess there would be some other people interested who
read this newsgroup...

I just found out that there's a recent Varèse CD out on the
budget Naxos label, by the Polish National Radio Symphony
Orchestra, "Varèse: Orchestral Works Vol 2".

This, along with the first Naxos collection from 2001, would give
nearly
as comprehensive an overview as the more pricey Complete
Works set on Decca.

It has versions of some of his lesser-known pieces,
"Tuning Up", "Un Grand Sommeil Noir" and Dance for Burgess".
The only things missing would be Poem Electronique and
the alternate arrangement of "Un Grand Sommeil Noir".

The first 2 reviews that I found:

thumbs down: http://tinyurl.com/3l3bwr

Also definitely worth getting is the reissue of the early 60's
Robert Craft recordings that were reissued as "The Varese
Album" last year on Wounded Bird Records.
