Since there was a wonderful post about favorite Zappa moments, I
thought i'd start this post about favorite Fz Album art, not just the
front insert, but the booklets and so forth. I love getting a new
album and looking for all the little CC clues in the art. Anyway, some
of my favorites are:

1-The Grand Wazoo: Great story inside, great cover, we even get band
member pics. (of course note that the little horse turns up in the art
of Ahead Of Their Time)

2-Lather: I don't know if its the original art that frank wanted for
the album but either way, its damn good. My biggest complaint is the
booklet is painful to read at times.

3-Burt Weeny: I'd just love to have a huge poster of this album cover
to hang in my living room.

4-CPIII: What more can you even say about this one? Everything about
it is great, by far the most complex of any Zappa album.

5-Uncle Meat: See #3

6-The Yellow Shark: Lovely booklet/cover/pictures. Its clear that near
the end, Frank put much more work into his album art/packages then he
had in previous years. The only problem is since its a box, if you
don't use a jewel case to hold the Cd, the box tends to get beaten up
very badly(same goes for CPIII and Lost Episodes)

AOTT is one of Cal's very best, imo.

I agree. They need some sort of plastic case. I bet that the paper
sleeves for the discs in Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar can't be good for the
CDs.

The star chart on the cover of OSFA that includes part of a Philadelphia
mass transit map. (Which joins into a NYC mass transit map) My first clue
that Calvin was somewhere nearby.

With all due respect to Cal's indisputable genius, one of my favorites remains
Weasels Ripped My Flesh.

Frank deserves credit for the closeups he put on his covers (Joes Garage,
Sheik,). Anyone who wants to display an album cover, just give me a shout at
GSDisplays, we have really cool album cover frames, called LPArt. When time
allows, I plan to put a bunch of Zappa covers in the LPArt gallery at
www.LPArt.com
