Not enough material for an expanded re-release?
=(
No, not enough material. Or, at least, there was a post on the
zappa.com where someone said that Joe told him this.

Correct.
Freak Out!, WOIIFTM, Lumpy Gravy, and CWRATJ all exist in at least two
versions authorized by FZ. Apparently that's not true for Absolutely
Free.

Ah, well ...
Actually, MOFO is just a dream. We don't actually own it.
Seriously, though, this is great news. An official release of the
Capitol Lumpy Gravy! Cool! Shall we speculate on other artifacts?
Mono mixes? Mothermania mixes? Original uncensored mixes?
Obviously, build reel instrumentals and actual speed vocals will be on
the menu.
Can't wait!

instrumental Lonely Little Girl, complete with bridge and orchestral Oh
No, leading into Theme From Burnt Weeny Sandwich without Art Tripp's
percussion
probably the 1980s version of the whole album too

and don't forget 1:48-3:31 of Lumpy Gravy in stereo

I noticed that the article said the set would include two mixes,
prepared by FZ, of each album.
According to Mark Pinske (IIRC), FZ was considering releasing an 80's-
overdubbed Lumpy Gravy but Pinske was able to talk him out of it. We
know FZ recorded overdubs with Arthur and Chad on at least one section
of Lumpy Gravy, which he played in the Speaking Of Music q&a radio
show. To put one far-fetched theory out there, perhaps the 80's
version is the "second mix" (although they may be counting the Capitol
version as the second mix).
The fact that they didn't bother with the mono Freak Out mix in MOFO
makes me skeptical that they will use the mono WOIIFTM (or LG, if
there is one).

See, I knew it: it's an April Fool's Day joke. Or one of Bill's
brilliant hoaxes.

:)
The ZFT have been active enough the last couple of years that I haven't
gotten the itch to write something and see it appear on the Idiot
Bastard web site as news.

Well, it does say "working on", not "completing".
