turns to musical preferences & you bring up that one of the rock
musicians that
you admire is Brian Wilson....duz one of three things happen:
1. - Your announcement is met with blank stares......
2. - Some clown in the group will say something a la "Oh! The Yello
Snow/Dynamo
Humm (choose one) Guy"!
3. Oh, isn't he the guy who gave his kids funny names???
WHY duz this happen???? Why don't MORE people know about this
tremendous
musical artist????
Is there anyone you can name that is so Famous BUT so unknown?????
The only other one I can think of is Stan Ridgway!

Why would anybody think Brian Wilson wrote "Yellow Snow?" Or named his
kids weird? People either know Zappa or they don't because Frank
didn't really go out of his way to build a fan base. He made records
and people who liked him bought them. I have a Frank Zappa/Mothers T-
Shirt and whenever I wear it I get stopped by guys my age and older
who all want to tell me when they saw the Mothers and where. NOBODY
younger than me has ever done this, and I'm 52. Frank stopped touring
when I was 30 so you'd think that somebody in their 40s would say
something, but no. The only way to turn people on the Frank Zappa is
to loan them a CD or two and say "listen to this, it's for your own
good." OR, and I did this recently, go to a bar with one of those
satellite juke boxes in it and pull up the ZPZ album. Play a couple of
songs off of that (since Frank's albums won't be on there) and watch
people's reaction. I always hear people say, "Wow...what is THAT???"
As for Brian Wilson, did you know you can sing the lyrics to Rubber
Duckie to the tune of "Surfer Girl?"
