Elite: TNK on R-Pi

I know that there's very little I can do with this, but out of
curiosity a couple of days back, I tried compiling an old copy of
E:TNK I had to run on the Raspbian linux (hard floating point)
distribution on the R-Pi. It took a bit of fiddling around with the
Allegro libraries to get a clean compile, but got there in the end.
There's a few bits and bobs that need tidying up still (mainly
something funky happening with the sun being destroyed every time you
jump to a new system), but it's perfectly playable, and very smooth.
Anyhow - just thought that it might spark a bit of interest here. Like
I said at the start, I can't do anything with it, as it's not public
domain. But if anyone here has an old copy of E:TNK source and a spare
Pi or two kicking around, it's pretty straightforward to get one
working on the other.

Hmm, interesting. I might have a look and see if ArcElite will run on

the Raspberry Pi port of RISC OS 5. I suspect it probably won't
without emulation, based on its performance on my A9home.

No, it doesn't - I know that this is being worked on by some of the RISC OS gurus. ArcElite is playable using !ArcEm on the pi, but if anything, it's too fast. And I've *really* not got the hang of mouse control :-/

IIRC, !ArmEm is what I use to play it on the A9, but I prefer playing

it natively on my A7000+.

speed. I'm used to flying with the mouse largely because I've been
playing ArcElite since 1991, but in the first few months I often
dropped to desktop to switch to keys because I was terrible at docking
using the mouse.
Out of curiosity, I've just tried playing with keys and got my arse
blown off in pretty short order. >:-(
I'm also /still/ not Elite on it...

It is reasonably portable, back in the day I had it working on
