Looks like it is finally going to happen. About to make my pledge.

Never did like EVE online, combat system very dissapointing. Every other Elite clone since then just didn't cut it.

It's a pity Braben took so many years to do this, perhaps he was waiting for technology to catch up.

But,its wonderful to see a release date, finally!

Yippeee!

But now I have to make an important decision. Do I want to be
"Jongwareville"? Nah. "Jongware Orbiter", perhaps? "The planet Jongware
in the Lascaille system"? Hmmm.

If only David had added a few pixxures -- now *that* would get my saliva
flowing.

Amazing. :-)

A little unsure about the MMO focus (instead of Thargoid fear packs of ill-tempered teenagers? Ouch!) but since it seems to be optional I'm OK with that, I guess. :-D

I was crazy to name a Space Station but if I did so i'd probably have to move to it - my wife would kick me out.

Sad thing, this grownup life, eh?

I still reckon the Elite Project will make it out first.

My wife ordered me out of the house one day and told me not to come
back without a (launch day) Gamecube and four controllers. Another
trip, I dared to suggest getting a MAME cabinet and I picked out a nice
family-friendly looking cab. My wife shook her head sadly and said "No,
no - you can't get one of those." before adding "We should get a proper
one instead!" and then pointing to a full height proper 80s-style
beast. She blinked, but then immediately said yes to a full sized
pinball table when I suggested it…

I wonder what grown-up life looks like? Maybe I'll reach it one day.

Please, go and do something *really* bad, so that your wife can kick you and become available again ;-)

The most recent debate was over cars. I said I needed a pracical
commuting car to drive to the station and back (round trip of 15
miles). I suggested a Smart. She disagreed, 'debate' ensued, she won
and I now have a 15 year-old Porsche 911 instead. Previous history here
includes me asking her to go and fetch a practical family car when we
had our second kid, and her coming back with a Subura Imprezza Turbo
claiming it was practical because it had four doors.

You. Are. Not. Getting. Near. Her….

There's an interview with David Braben on the BBC News website. If you're
good at squinting at background monitors there's also a couple of glimpses
of what might be an early Elite: Dangerous game engine.

anymore of my money, surely!?

See http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous for latest news, FAQs, concept graphics and video interview with David Braben.

In the first 10 days over 10,000 backers have pledged over £450,000 towards a new multiplayer version.

Check it out and join in making it happen.

The kicktraq graph doesn't look promising, although most kickstarters have a flat middle with a sharp rise at the start and end. Braben is being bullish about reaching the target - maybe he has some big spenders lined up to join in near the end.

Peanuts for only two people though. These days, he's got to buy
peanuts for more than a hundred.

Heh don't lose faith if it doesn't quite make it.
If the worst happens, they can still take the Kickstarter figures to a bank or publisher to borrow some more loot.

I keep wondering this. Looks like a lot of work to just throw away. I
wonder if they've actually got some of their own cash tucked away to
help out.
