Ok well, I've been playing Elite Plus for PC and it's been a while and
it's becoming quite repetitive and boring.

I am deadly rate, Galaxy 4. I've done lots of Anarchy (I used to think
those were impossible, now I find them rather easy. Yet I can seem to
reach Elite Rating or new missions.

The last mission I had was the Supernoca in Galaxy 2. I jumped right
up to Galaxy 3. Then I must have done at least 100 hyperspace jumps
and never met the Police Ship mission (I did go to the station to most
of these jumps). After a while, I thought "fuck it", maybe the next
mission would only occur in Galaxy 4 because I jumped from 2 to 3, and
perhaps the program never registered that jump. Well, I'm pretty sure
I'm over the 65 hyperspace jump on this one, visited so many places,
and yet no mission or elite rating.

I need to know:

1) is there any way to look up and see where you're at in your numbers
of killings and all ?? So I can at least see if I'm improving ?? I
tried the Hex Editor (HDD Free Hex Editor) but I don't understand a
thing in the digits.
I don't really want to change them but see if something is screwed.

2) When you say there is 64 hyperspace jumps to make before reaching a
mission, do you need to reach the station at the EXACT 64th jump, or
can you just jump many times from planets to planets and when you have
done enough, hope to reach the mission in a nearby planet ??

3) Say the police mission was affiliated to Galaxy 3, and Galaxy 4
would bring me the followig mission if I ever get it, will I get a
second chance to the police mission if I jump all over to galaxy 3
again ??

I'm over 25 000 credits and fully equipped (there is nothing else for
me to buy), so just getting more credits is pointless to me. I just
want to get Elite and-or get to do all or most missions.

But I need to know if my saves are screwed, something is not right
between my gameplay and the FAQ.

Thanks for the help,

Griot

Well, not much replies here.

So I spent all week doing anarchy systems and reached Elite anyway.
Basically it simply takes a lot of patience.

I still haven't reached any mission past the first two, so
will test this week if it is because you need to be Elite
to reach the upper missions (I've done so many
hyperspace jumps without reaching anything,
I was wondering if my save file was corrupted
(I'm in Galaxy 4)).

I know some people like to say "read the FAQ",
but the only tool available for Elite Plus that could have
told you your amount of kills seem to have vanished
from the internet a while ago. There is another available
tool that tells you how to hack (edit in hex), but it doesn't
answer my questions above.

Thanks.

Well,

I've run around for over 70 hypersystem jumps
(past my reaching Elite rating) and never met
any mission (That's in Elite Plus).

So those who say they are missions
every 64 jumps or so, well now you know
it is not always the case.

Unless...do you mean 64 galaxy jumps ??
That would be crazy.

I'm starting to think: what if I have triggered
a mission somewhere back, by double clicking
very fast upon station entry. Say, a mission that
sends me to this or that planet.... Then, is it
possible the program is still registered to that mission,
while I've gone on trading in othewr galaxies ? Because
if that is the case, I have no way of knowing if any
missions is already triggered, and which planet
I must reach (and in which galaxy) to finish it.
Which is very annoying.

I only had the Supernova mission in galaxy two
(plus the Tribble in one). Back then I jumped
to Galaxy 3 to save the refugees. Since
then I have done countless hypersystem jumps,
both in Galaxy 3 and 4, trying to reach either
new missions or Elite rate. For a while I was starting
to think that any future missions would only occur at
Elite Rating. Alas, since I've got that I've done
over 70 jumps in Galaxy four, and halfway through
the same amount in Galaxy 5. I am running
around and think will end here, but that kinda sucks
if I wanted to try archangel.

I might edit in hex but have no idea how that works.
A certain George H wrote this:

00C5 Activate Special Missions - Note that certain missions will
require the ship to be in a specific galaxy.

00 = default value
01 = Sun going Supernova. Transport refugees.
02 = Retrieve Masking Device.
03 = Invading Thargoids, destroy Coriolis station.
04 = Destroy stolen Police ship. Galaxy?
05 = Transport Thargoid invasion plans. Galaxy?
06 = Destroy asteroids before they reach a planet. Galaxy?

.................But I don't have a clue what it means. I have
HDD Free Hex Editor. I don't where to change value exactly,
and in fact I did try stuff but it didn't do nothing.
It's not clear as wrether the mission is triggered upfront or
after another 64 jumps. Also the part about Galaxy is confusing.
All the pre-prepared mission files occur in Galaxy 2. Why can't
they all appear in Galaxy 5 ? Returning to Gal 2 is the least
of my problems, at any rates.

My last solution is ending the game and just do the prepared
missions files separately, but that's like, well, it's not the same.

Cheers,

Griot

Yes, it is possible.

Then again, it might be an entirely different problem. I'm not familiar
with Elite Plus at all, sorry.

Ok,

I'm writting this for future Elite Plus players who get into the same
trouble.

I managed to play old saves, right after the Supernova mission, and
find out that
the mission after it, a good 40 jumps later, was the Mask mission.

Now that I've gone through it, I think I recall once to have use the
Energy Bomb
because I was assaulted upon entry in a system. I have a vague memory
of the 3
Asps.

I think what happened is that I doubled-click very fast by mistake at
the system
that the mission was announced, and so never had time to see or read
it.
Than when I met the 3 Asps assault, I think it was in an anarchy
system so
I didn't take the time to notice that they were weird ships in there
(cougar,
constrictor), simply because I was getting down fast, so I used the
Energy Bomb
pretty quick.

Now that I pursued from the old save, I have already done most
missions (I just
continually hyperjump between 2 close systems to get to them).

There is stuff I want to report:

1. I have heard people say that it takes 50 jumps between systems to
get to new
missions past the second mission. Others claim it was 64. My
experience is less
than 40 jumps. So take in note that this number seems to vary.

2. If you constantly quick-hyperjump between systems, you don't need
to be at the exact jump to get
to the next mission. You get to the next mission simply once you have
filled over a certain amount of jumps.

3. Some people have argued that there is one mission per galaxy, this
does not seem
to be the case. First, it doesn't make sense, because you get a new
mission pretty fast,
and you might be too tight with credits to be able to buy a new
Hypergalaxy jumper before you
do those 40 to 50 hypersystem jumps that gets you to your new
misssion. Basically
the missions just occur at every 40 to 64 jumps, and wrether you hop
galaxy or not
is irrelevant. Unless there is a secret mission later on (no one ever
found the Constrictor
mission, though it is mentioned in the code), than there doesn't seem
to be any galaxy-specific
mission. In fact, you are likely to never be able to do a mission per
galaxy unless you wait to
be ultrarich before jumping to Galaxy 2, or are an expert trader or
spend hours killing in anarchy
systems. I just find that getting the money to buy a new Hypergalaxy
jumper is slower for me than
getting a new mission to appear.

4. The 8 galaxies are pretty similar, except new words appearing in
the description and slight planet color variations. So you don't
really need to do them, unless you want to reach Lave again or
something. They are
many people who played this for years, or have read the source code
thoroughly, so it would be fact these days if
other hidden missions would exist. Some people think Elite Plus might
contained the Constrictor mission in a hidden form, most think it was
not implemented (though it appears in the source codes). Who knows
if it appears after 10 000 hyperspace jumps? There is also mention of
a 9th Galaxy that no one was able to
reach except by hacking. I think you should be in the 8th Galaxy if
you insist on experimenting with that.
If somebody was updating Elite Plus, I would make that the missions
require 1 hypergalaxy jump, over
the 40 to 64 hypersystem jumps, so then at least it would forcefully
be one mission per galaxy.

----------------------------------------------

The annoying thing in restarting from an old save, is that I lost all
my credits (I was rich), and my Elite status. So I will have to spent
hours in anarchy systems to get to that again. It might sound silly
(it is), but I took my original Elite guy and travelled all the way
back to the spot where I have restarted the game (from the old save),
just so that I can pretend it's the same guy. I mean, if I was
writting the story of that game, that's how it would be: the guy lost
Elite status and credits for bypassing important missions. Lol !!

I originally planned to end in Lave, but I think I'll settle on
Quisbe, 4th galaxy. It has lushful forests, nice cuisine, and high
tech level. Who minds that the residents are birdheads?

Goodbye,

Griot
