# Zakath rubbed at his stubbled chin. 'I'll come, too,' he said. 'I
# don't look that much like the coins any more. He glared briefly at
# Belgarath. 'How can you stand this?' he demanded, scratching
# vigorously at his face. 'The itching is about to drive me wild.'
#
# 'You get used to it,' Belgarath told him. 'I wouldn't feel right if
# my face didn't itch.'

Now I'm a notorious beardy, but my face has never noticably itched as
a result of my beard. Has big Dave just never had a beard, or are
other people's beards actually itchy to the owner?

Actually, when my whiskers[1] got to around about 2mm long, my face
would often itch like crazy for a few days until they got that little
bit longer, when it stopped. I'd say 'Zakath hairs, if he's got a
stubbly chin, could well still be at this magic length.

[1] I won't justify them with the title of "beard"

I occasionally sport a rather fetching gaotee style beard. I sometimes get
the idea of growing it quite long, but when it gets about an inch or so, it
gets somewhat itchy. That is when the scissors come out, I invariably
slip, and end up clean shaven. I just have a low threshhold for stuff
annoying me.

Also never try to trim your facial hair after a few beers, you regret it
when you wake up, same result, clean shaven.

Definite itch factor here. I think it has to do with how curly your
hair is. The more natural curl you have in your hair the more that
facial hair curls towards the face, thus causing it to itch until it
gets past a certain length - at least that's the problem I've noticed
for myself.

In my experience of being beardy, the itch is always there, it just
subsides quite a lot after the first inch or 2, after which it's not
overly noticable, until it's not there, anyway.

It's just as well this is a family newsgroup, as my instinctive reply
to this is probably best not actually said out loud.... or posted for
posterity...

Bugger - using Google Groups and just realised my "Replies" to Authors
don't show on the thread... so in order to summarise my responses so
far:
To Senji:
I get big red beard with overtones of 70s hippy around the ears... and
it itches like hell :)

To Teuty:
<in royal tones of Murgodom>
"We hereby dub thee "Beard", Lord of Stubble, Slayer of Moustaches,
Guardian of Muttonchops, Invader of Pubes"

To Krags:
I can just image Kragee sporting with a fetching goat.... I just hope
there aren't any kids :)

<< snip everything significant and un-significant >>

does he have a beard?

..maybe Big Dave is just basing his experiences on cuddling sessions
with his wife?

*flees the scene*

- Belsammael,
itch me not
