Are you blind? Sparhawk had a broken nose and was not classically good
looking. Angel is drop dead gorgeous :P

Sorta. I know that Mandorallen and Sparhawk should look similar in
terms of body build -- wearing solid metal clothing and swinging a
five foot steel stick around the place day after day does tend to
build up body mass -- but I always imagined Mandorallen as rather tall
and slim, and Sparhawk as more broad-shouldered and heavily-built.
Angel's build is pretty much perfect for Sparhawk. I'll concede that
Sparhawk has a broken nose and isn't supposed to be great-looking, but
(a) there are not many actors with broken noses, so it'll need to be
done with makeup anyway (even Dustin Hoffman is not enough of a method
actor to break his own nose to get a part), (b) if that's the reason
for binning Boreanaz then it'll be the first time in the history of
cinema that someone didn't get a role because they were *too good
looking*, (c) Angel has the broody temper thing down pat, which
Sparhawk does too, and (d) never try and do a four-item list of
reasons when you can only think of three.
Angel's gorgeousness is also in the eye of the beholder, I am told,
although you're hardly alone in appreciating it :)

I was just talking to Sparhawk (the 1st - when I appeared as Kalten~!!!
around 1993) and he was saying that with the current age where its now very
easy to develop Fantasy movies (Jurassic Park and before was more of the
sci-fi era) The Belgariad would actually make a good movie that could
probably be on par with Lord Of The Rings. It has a good story, and a rich
universe. The characteristics of locations and races are so strongly
defined that using leitmotifs (recurring musical themes for particular
person/people/locations) would work very well, from going into Tolnedran
towns to the Vale of Aldur to Cthol Murgoes.
It would be interesting to see how sorcery would be implemented (over magic)
as its all in the mind though.
Other than the fact that only Lord Of The Rings has done well as a fantasy
film (unless the film bridges real world into fantasy like Narnia and Harry
Potter), The Belgariad would do really well.
Not sure if The Elenium / Tamuli has such a strongly defined world, but that
would also do well I think.

I don't know about a movie, as you need to have a broad following to make
that sort of thing work. But a mini-series like they did with Dune? That
would work fine, I think.
