EEK!

Well, uhm, it's a very nice.. binary. The biggest problem I see here, apart
from your obviously flagrant disregard for the rules, your peers,
alt.fan.dragons, Usenet in general and indeed life itself, is that I didn't
get to be first in telling you off. Bah.

I'd hardly call the gentle suggestions offered a 'telling off'. Perhaps
you're more sensitive than I am. >:=8)

The original poster, a "shiva", iirc, posted a binary to the newsgroups.
This is against the faq, the charter, usenet etiquette, and pretty darn
rude, as well...
Someone, a net.cop or wannabe, cancelled the message, preventing you from
ever seeing it.

If it had been from an experienced poster, possibly. As it was, I
didn't see any reason for accusations of rudeness. Clearly, YMMV.

Or it might not have appeared on individual ISPs' NNTP servers due to
automatic binary filters, of course.

It's possible that it was filtered out by sahd_ryoken's news server,
too. Some news servers automagically nuke binary posts made to
non-binary groups, to save on their limited disk space. Their disk
platters, their rules, and all that.

Good point.

Just about any group with 'picture' in it..."alt.binaries.pictures.misc" is
a good pick...
But, for heaven's sake, change your newsreader first! Outlook is usable
(barely) for most text groups, but if you go into a binary...let's just say
you've been warned. *grin*
Oh, of course...you need a replacement...*grin* Well, I use XNews, which
you can find at http://xnews.newsguy.com/ ...there are a few bugs, and the
interface isn't for everyone, but if you can use it...
Or, you could go with a lot of people's fave...Agent...I'm not fond of it,
but it is pretty good...

> Oh, lol, and what the heck is binary? I mean, I know binary code, but
> how does this apply to posting pictures?

On Usenet, files are posted as binaries, basically they are converted to a
pure-text format, and uploaded to the server. Intelligent newsreaders(ie
almost anything other than OE) are capable of automatically detecting and
decoding these posts. I suggest you get that copy of XNews or agent
running, check out a few random binary groups, and just leech for a
while...

Ditto, here. Although I understand why many people still prefer not to have
them posted directly to the list... especially since when most people *do*
post pics to the list, they don't seem to bother making sure the file size
is something reasonably small (under 100K).

I know I've posted links to some rather hefty pictures, but I would never
post an actual file that size to a forum where people didn't really have a
choice about downloading it. If someone clicks a link to a picture I've
posted and they feel the pic is bigger than they want to download, they can
just close it out. With news or email programs some people don't have that
option.

Check out alt.binaries.3d.bryce for really excellent artwork, although you
have to slog through some really bad art to find the good stuff some days.

Actually no, but it does let me spool many group's worth of binaries onto my
hard disk in directories names after the group. IE: alt/binaries/sounds/midi
(or do it with dots ala alt.binaries.sounds.midi, or just dump everything in
one place). And it's free to download and try out.

Gah, so you beat me. It's still better than OE though. :P

Shorthand for a furry that feels that "furry" is, at least for them,
more than just collecting furry art/stories/etc. Reading the FAQ for
the newsgroup alt.lifestyle.furry might help clarify things a bit
better than I can (only in part because I'm too lazy to type it all
out >;-p ).

http://www.tigerden.com/infopage/furry/lifestyle.txt

Personally, I've never really cared for the "lifestyler" handle, but
it stuck. No matter, what I am is what I am, regardless of what
others call it.

Depends on who you ask.

The derogatory term for 'lifestyler' is someone with furry-specific
fetishes, ie plushies, bestiality, whatever.

I was obviously using the term in a non-serious sense. :>

It's always dragon season. Although, since we can hunt back, it's a real

I see...well, that should work for you then...

*looks out her window* I, however, have something far more dangerous: The
