I very rarely post to newsgroups, so I hope this comes through ok.
I'm an occasional lurker here and was hoping someone could help me:
Does anyone know where this picture comes from? I'd love to find a
print of it, but haven't had any luck. Thanks in advance.

Actually, yes I know at least one place where that picture is used. It's on
page 6 of Anne McCaffery's book "A Diversity of Dragons" (
http://www.mi.uib.no/~respl/tolkien/Artists/Howe/div-drag/divdragons-800.htm
l)
Since the book is "illustrated by John Howe" you might try doing a search
for his name on line to find out more information on the pic and others like
it.

*grin* Not a great deal that can be done after it's sent, you're right.
Cancelling posts is technically possible, but many servers don't honour
cancel requests, and I've never found it particularly reliable, in any
case.

Unfortunately, our website has been down for a while, but Google stores
old copies. Here's one:

No worries. Hope I didn't come across as lecturing -- 'twasn't my
intent, honestly. <:=8)

No harm done -- and hey, we all learn through our mistakes. In fact,
it's pretty much the /only/ way I learn. I wish I could just read
textbooks or something... ;=8)
oh that link may not come up since many email programs will wrap the link,
thus screwing it up for a direct click. Let me repost that on it's own here
and hopefully it won't get messed up:
http://www.mi.uib.no/~respl/tolkien/Artists/Howe/div-drag/divdragons-800.htm
l
If it does get messed up, just make sure the link extension at the end reads
.html
Hmmm, I was posting that wasn't I, at one time... Will have to look, if so,
it might be a good idea to begin posting it again, you think?

The book by Anne McCaffrey isn't particularly good for accuracy of the
various legends. She altered them to fit in with her views rather than
sticking to the true acknowledged myths. I'm not particularly a fan of the
book, or Anne McCaffrey for that matter.

Given dragonfire.org's continuing absence, some sort of FAQ posting
would certainly be handy, yes.

No, didn't think there was one.
