The misnamed "Real Life" has never been fun, really..... And it's
gotten a lot less fun for the past 3 weeks..... Hospitalized, and now
diabetic (blood glucose was over 55 mmol/L when I went in, every doctor
I speak to is astounded that I wasn't in a diabetic coma) and now,
because of medicine costs and loss of work, I can't afford to pay rent
this month, let alone pay any other bills..... Yay "Real Life".....
Oh, yes, and to top it all off, because of all the new chemicals I'm
taking, my antidepressants aren't working any more..... Yay me.....

FORTUNE'S GUIDE TO DEALING WITH REAL-LIFE SCIENCE FICTION: #14 What to
do... if reality disappears? Hope this one doesn't happen to you.
There isn't much that you can do about it. It will probably be quite
unpleasant. if you meet an older version of yourself who has invented
a time traveling machine, and has come from the future to meet you?
Play this one by the book. Ask about the stock market and cash in.
Don't forget to invent a time traveling machine and visit your younger
self before you die, or you will create a paradox. If you expect this
to be tricky, make sure to ask for the principles behind time travel,
and possibly schematics. Never, NEVER, ask when you'll die, or if
you'll marry your current SO. -- Herdthinners
I just ate. I think if I become a roller coaster I throw up. *Does
ferris wheel impression*
For me, since the twentieth, RL = school = a pain.
Half of an immortal heart? I'll take it!

Humans seem to be not quite intelligent enough to understand capitalism,
and have built it badly by using selfish entities instead of conflicting
ones and try to have positive balances for people.
If I in my civilisation am ill, I compare the predicted
total-future-value and total-future-debt-amount for various actions and
pick the action that gave the best (including interest, inflation, and
riskiness). Currently, likely, the best choice is treatment. Near the
end of my designed lifespan, my value will be low enough and repair will
be difficult enough that the best option is I kill myself and the parts
of me are used.

Honestly, more humans need to think that way.
I mean, not that I want to see my grandparents dead, but seeing them
like this (one of them has alzheimer's) is painful. My dad's parents
decline was more rapid than my mother's--relatively speaking, my dad's
parents are about 15 years younger--and as of this week they're all at
the same point: assissted living. Mom's mom is holding up, as is Dad's
dad, for the most part. It's the other two that are the reason they've
moved out (and damn I'm going to miss my Dad's parent's place; they
built it and lived in it their whole adult lives, even had it remodeled
only a few years ago after my grandmother broke her hip the second
time).

What, like the American system, where the week I spent in the hospital
would have cost me about $15000? You think that's better....?

sharing stops at biological stuff.....

No, they understand capitalism perfectly. They just don't realize that
the system is self-defeating.
>> Yay "Real Life".....
> I very think that is sarcasm. Is it?
I certainly hope so, or I'm also delerious.....
No, that would be a less nationalised healthcare system. By more
nationalised I meant government-funded, like the NHS over here. The
idea is that most people save more by not needing insurance than the
extra tax required, and the quality of service isn't affected too much.
Most people have to pay an additional $10 or so for a few week's worth
of medicine, but I *think* you'd get it all free here, since you are
unemployed. Of course that wouldn't help much if you were out of work.
> You think that's better....?
Huh? I tried to make the question neutral, though I like the UK system
better than the USA one. In context (and with the smiley), it was
supposed to be a joke: of course you would prefer a taxpayer-funded
system. I fear I was too insensitive.
# I love my friends / and they love me. #
# We're just as close / as friends can be. #
# And just because / we really care, #
# Whatever we get, we share! #
(etc)
Surely that is the only one of his songs that got *more* sick and
twisted a while after it was written.
Phooy.

I'm not unemployed. I just don't make enough to cover medical costs,
even when 80% is already covered.....
>> You think that's better....?
> Huh? I tried to make the question neutral, though I like the UK
> system better than the USA one. In context (and with the smiley), it

Or I was too sensitive..... A downside of chronic depression is that
I'm almost always angry as a preventive measure to other things.....
And now, with Type II Diabetes, things have multiplied
exponentially..... Medication that used to work no longer works. So
I'm more and more angry (and, yes, even having suicidal thoughts again)
and things don't look to be getting any better.....
It seems that I suck at portraying dystopia. I was trying to write
something that Lkuznac would like but the rest of us wouldn't.
I have found some good news lately.
I've recently read in the news that the global economy is flattening
out. We're at the bottom of a depression right now between two waves,
which means that soon a new wave will start, and life will be good again.
Unfortunately, unless this upsurge in economics also removes my medical
conditions, nothing for me will ever be "good" again.
The current proposal for a nationalized healthcare system in the US
does not include a public option. There are others they are waiting to
vote on that do include the option almost 100,000 people protested
over in D.C. They had what we call a "Tea Party" event. Marched from
coast to coast in protest and still got no attention. One protester
was even called racist for it.
Truth be told there is no upsurge in economics right now. According to
all the news out there most of the upsurge is because of all the
government bailouts. The auto industry is again falling after the cash
for clunkers program ended and several others are following. There may
be an upswing in the future, but I don't believe we are there yet.
Greylight S.
Oh "the rest of us" don't like it. You can be sure of that. If you
tried to make that the way the real world worked, people would be up in
arms about it.
I do like it though. I understand the necessity for it and am having to
come to terms with the fact that my grandparents are quite litterally
falling apart; its painful.
Besides, dystopia is far more interesting than utopia (and I've already
worked out that utopia is actually impossible, but that's another
discussion).
Anyway, it's all about social norms. Remember the Futurama episode
where Farnsworth turned 160 and they dragged him off? They only rescued
him because Fry wanted it, and the only reason Fry wasn't ok wiht it is
because it wasn't /his/ social norm.
The only news I can find is a protest over "ObamaCare" and /not wanting/
a public option........or something.
> Truth be told there is no upsurge in economics right now. According to

Maybe I have a different definition of capitalism. I have re-read
definitions of it, and I am better to understand them than when I last
read them (which was a few years ago) because I have integrated the
concepts of English more than then. I missed the implied competition
for continued existence that time, and instead comprehended mere
disagreement (competition of ideas).
Actually that was the one I was referring too. FoxNews did a report on
it live on the scene. Thanks for the "QFT". :)
Greylight S.
Ah.
Actually had an argument/discussion with someone at work about it the
other day. Turns out his problem is taxes. Not increased taxes, but
any taxes. I told him, "fine, you don't pay taxes and the government
which you don't want in your life will stop paving the road in front of
your house, stop maintaining the sewer pipes and plumbing under your
house, and the electrical wires leading into it."
To which he had no response.
*lol* Some people really are clueless about such things. Usually it's
the ones who think that taxes are a way to gain a profit off everyone.
They often forget that the tax money is used for any number of things
including general road, land, and energy maintenance. Without taxes
the government wouldn't be able to pay for all of that and we the
people would be paying the full cost of it out of pocket.
Greylight S.
taxes sadly are both, a dispropotionate portion allocated towards gain
health care will be crippled and full of graft in the first versions
it is however a necessary begining, only by starting can it improve
as for funding:
the US defence budget misplaces more funds than is required
military studies for unecessary hardware will go ahead at greater cost
strategically most of the US population is considered expendable
all expenditures for their care will remain at a minimum priority
